Hey all! Did you miss me? We have been back from vacation for a week now, and what a week it has been! We had so much fun on our cruise, and I can't wait to tell you all about it. Between my pictures and those from the ship's photographers, I have over 700 photos to go through (and post, of course), but all I have managed to do is find my favorite so I could order my Christmas cards.
So why haven't I had a chance to get anything done? Well, apparently, I'm suffering from some kind of post-vacation curse, because I have had a week from hell!
After barely getting the suitcases unpacked last Sunday, I went back to work on Monday expecting everything to be chaos. To my surprise, it wasn't. Monday and Tuesday were relatively easy days, and I even had a nice surprise Tuesday evening and was able to have dinner with my very first friend who I have literally known since I was born. Little did I know that it was the calm before the storm.
I started feeling bad before the cruise, then I felt better during the cruise, but once we got back home, I started feeling icky again. (I swear there is something in my house that I'm allergic to.) By Wednesday morning, I had a full blown sinus infection, so I started taking the antibiotics I got before we left. I also went to my chiropractor for my weekly adjustment and massage, and when I left, I decided I needed "real" food for lunch (rather than my usual Caesar salad). I pulled into the Chipotle near my chiro's office, and there was not one parking spot available. I drove back to work and decided I still wanted Chipotle, so I pulled into the one by my office.
Now, I drive a big ole Nissan Armada, and because of the back-up camera and sensors all around the entire vehicle, I can park that thing like it is a tiny car. Well, usually. I found out the hard way that day that my sensors were no longer functioning. I was pulling into one of the ridiculously small parking places at the shopping plaza when I felt a bump. "Did I just hit that car? But my sensors didn't go off!" When I got out of my truck I saw some scratches on the front of it, but didn't see anything on the other car where I thought I had hit it. Once I scanned down to the back of the car, though, I saw this...
You guys, I was mortified! I have NEVER hit another car! While I have been involved in a few accidents, none of them were my fault. I walked into Chipotle and ordered my lunch, all while my hands were shaking. When I came back out, I found a piece of paper and a pen and wrote the owner of the other vehicle a note. "Hi, I'm a dumbass who relies too much on technology and I hit your car. Please call me."
At about 5:00 that afternoon, the guy called. Luckily he was super cool about the whole thing. Because by this time, my friends had me thinking the cops were going to come haul me away from work for a hit-and-run. I asked him to please get an estimate for the damages and I would pay for his vehicle to get fixed. He agreed and I was relieved.
When I woke up Thursday morning and attempted to go into the bathroom, apparently my eyes weren't open and I walked head first into Brian's dresser and cracked my head. Seriously, I still have the goose egg on the side of my head! I was also starting to feel worse, despite the fact I was taking antibiotics.
The guy called Thursday with the estimate for the damages and I was shocked at how low it was. I agreed to pay him directly and we made an agreement to meet Friday. At least that was one less headache to deal with.
By the time Thursday night rolled around, I was really starting to feel ill. So bad, in fact, that I went to bed with my kids at 9:30. I literally went to bed with them too. There had been a couple of attempted break ins in our neighborhood, one of which was armed, and I wanted to keep them close for a few days. Needless to say, I didn't get great sleep that night. I swear, Bryce is like a wild animal when he sleeps!
Friday is kind of a blur. I went to work and literally worked from the second I got there until the second I had to leave to make my money drop. I was even late leaving because I was trying to get things done. I dropped Rylie off at a party for Girl Scouts and then met my mom, my aunt and Bryce at IHOP for our usual Friday night dinner. Brian had to work late, so he couldn't make it.
We were supposed to go to a birthday party on Saturday, so Bryce and I were going to run over to Toys "R" Us after dinner and get a gift. By the time we were done eating, though, not only did I realize that there was no way I was going to make it out shopping, but that I most likely had the flu and shouldn't be around anyone anyway. We came home from dinner and I laid on the couch while Bryce played until it was time to pick Rylie up. It took everything in me to just stay awake. Luckily, my friend ended up bringing Rylie home, so we didn't have to leave. Once she was home, the kids and I went into my room to watch a movie, aka...mommy needs sleep now!
I slept until like 10 on Saturday morning, and when I woke up, I couldn't move without crying out in pain. I don't know if it's my old mattress, or because of the fact that I had been sleeping with wild man for two nights in a row, but my back hurt so bad from the top to the bottom. Luckily, my mom was having a yard sale that day and the kids wanted to go sell lemonade, so I was able to rest a lot on Saturday. They even stayed over there Saturday night and most of yesterday, so I tried to just rest and relax as much as possible in between loads of laundry and work that I needed to get done before Monday morning.
I really hope that this "curse" is over and this week is better. It has to be! With just over two weeks until Christmas, I have way too much to do to be down like this. We don't even have our Christmas tree up yet! I am almost done shopping, but still have a few things to get for Rylie (you know, to even the count), and I need to pick up a few things for the kids' teachers. There are all kinds of Christmas festivities I would love to take the kids to, and I suppose at some point, we need to go see Santa. There's just too much to do, and no time to do it!
Who else is behind on Christmas this year?
