The Sickies Got Him Again

As of the time I wrote this post on Thursday night, the questions for Five Question Friday had not been posted, so there will be no 5QF today. It's just as well, because I'm tired and I really should go to bed.

The sickies got my poor little boy again this week, and he's had a pretty rough time. On Monday night, just as I finished up blog stuff and was getting ready for bed, I heard a ruckus coming from Bryce's room, and then the bathroom. As I came around the corner to see what was going on, Brian yelled "Stop!", just before I stepped in it. There was puke all over the hallway floor, and all over Bryce's bed and his wall. You see, when he throws up, he jumps around like a 2 year old throwing a temper tantrum, and the nastiness just flies everywhere! We got him cleaned up, sheets changed and the wall and floor cleaned up, just in time for round 2. He was in my bed for that one, though. Luckily I scooped him up like a football and managed to at least get him in the bathroom before it really came up. After that, I barricaded him on the couch with some chairs (he is WILD when he sleeps) and I bunked out there with him.

He spent the day with my mom on Tuesday and continued to throw up for most of the day. When I picked him up Tuesday night, the poor kid was beyond miserable. He had stopped throwing up by this point, but was getting dehydrated and was just tired and week. I slept out on the couch with him that night again, and he kept waking up totally delirious. I'm pretty sure he was having night terrors like Rylie does. He was very disoriented and cried a lot.

Sick Boy

When we woke up on Wednesday, Bryce was dry heaving and wouldn't drink anything, so I called in sick to work and was planning to take him to the doctor. By the time I got ready, though, he was drinking some juice and seemed to be feeling a little better. I took Rylie to school and picked up some Pedialyte and some more grape juice for the rest of us. (Rylie and I have been drinking grape juice to ward off the stomach bug for the last few days.) He went to sleep shortly after I got home.

When he woke up around 11:30, he asked for some cookies. We compromised with some bananas drizzled with honey first, then some fruit snacks, and then some Cookie Crisp cereal. Luckily it all stayed down. Bryce seemed to feel a little bit better after he ate and kept saying he was "a little bit bored", so I took him out for a short bike ride to get some sun. A little sunshine always helps the sickies, and it was a beautiful day!

Sick day bike ride

After we got back home, he was back on the couch, watching Bolt for the gazillionth time. At least he was smiling, though.

Feeling better

Unfortunately, the smiles didn't last long. A couple hours later, the crap started coming out the other end. Literally. I had run upstairs to send out a quick email when I heard the rumble. He was on his way upstairs when it hit, and didn't make it to the bathroom. I'll save you the details and just say that I got him into the bathroom just before it started seeping out of his pant leg. Blech. I got him cleaned up and bathed, and then it was back to the couch. Poor kid. At one point in the night he was on the toilet and I asked him if he peed (trying to make sure he wasn't getting dehydrated). His response? "Only out of my butt." LOL

The "butt peeing" continued all day yesterday while he was with my mom, and when I got home last night, he was whiny again. He hadn't eaten anything since breakfast, and he said he didn't want to eat when we had dinner. He did end up perking up and said he wanted to spend the night with my mom, so he took off with her. He had been attached to me for the past couple of days, so I hope that meant he was feeling better. If he doesn't eat something soon, he's going to waste away to nothing!

So that was my fun week. I am so sick of cleaning up puke and poop, and I am crossing my fingers that the rest of us don't get it.

To top it off, my insurance company denied the CT scan my doctor wants done on my thyroid. You know, because they know better than she does. It pisses me off to no end that some idiot in a suit can read a file for two minutes and deny a test that my doctor of over 10 years has ordered, especially since I have a family history of thyroid cancer. Ridiculous! My doctor is on it, so hopefully she'll be able to talk some sense into those fools!

Two more weeks until I'm headed out of the country on a cruise, and I cannot wait!!! Of course that got screwed up too, because I waited too long to add the "My Time Dining" to my reservation, and now we're stuck eating at 6:00 with all of the early birds. Oh well. I'll still be on vacation and won't be here, so I'll eat whenever they want me to!

As for the weekend...

We were supposed to go to the Strawberry Festival this Saturday, but I think we'll give Bryce some more time to recover and postpone that until next weekend. We're going to Disney Live on Sunday, which I won tickets to from The Suburban Mom. Yay! Oh, and it is going to be COLD here this weekend...down in the 30s Sunday morning. YIKES! I really hope this is our last cold spell.

What are you all up to this weekend? I hope everyone stays well...and warm! Have a good weekend!

There are so many people getting sick, they call it viruses but somehow they make us feel really bad.

Sick kids are sometimes harder on the mommy than on the kids themselves. Hope everyone is well for the cruise. Eating at 6pm is really good since you can always find other things to eat in the late evenings.

Poor thing! I lol'ed at the peeing out of his butt comment. I hope no one else in your household got sick. We just got over bronchitis with our 2 yr old and RSV with our 3 month old. I am glad our other 3 didn't catch the icky germs =)

Oh, lord!! It seems like this winter has be TERRIBLE with everyone being sick!! I wouild think since the weather doesn't get that bad in FL that you guys wouldn't get it as much as we do. But I guess I am wrong! LOL! Listen, we have all had it here too, hence the lack of blogging! Emailing you now...

I feel for you. My daughter was always sick at that age, and I always felt so helpless. Then, of course, she's pass the bug onto me and then my husband...occassionally starting all over again if she re-caught ut from him. Seems like those years were just spent in the doctors office!

My little granddaughter is not feeling well today (stomach flu) and she looks so pitiful, laying down and cuddling with a blanket. She is not her usual self.
