Rubbermaid LunchBlox Sandwich Kit {Review}

Rubbermaid
As parents and children are gearing up for back-to-school all over the country, many of you are trying to think of what to pack for lunch for your little ones. I am not yet packing lunch for my kids, but due to food allergies, I will have to do so when they start elementary school. I have to imagine that it can be a difficult task to find enough variety so your kids aren't eating the same lunch day after day, but since most schools do not have refrigerators available for students to keep their lunches cold, the choices can be very limited.

Rubbermaid has recently come up with a great idea for keeping those school lunches cold until your kids can eat them. I would like to introduce to you today the LunchBlox food storage containers.

Rubbermaid LunchBlox Kits

Rubbermaid LunchBlox makes packing lunch easier than ever. These modular containers snap together in multiple configurations to efficiently use the space in your lunch box or bag. Containers are perfectly portioned for your favorite lunch foods with handy measurements on the sides of each container. Your lunch stays chilled with snap in Blue Ice. Individual containers are sold separately from kits so you can configure a different way everyday.

The LunchBlox containers come in different starter kits, or you can purchase the components separately. I recently received the LunchBlox Sandwich Kit for review.

LunchBlox Sandwich Kit

The LunchBlox Sandwich Kit includes a sandwich container sized for regular and specialty breads, two small snack containers and one larger snack container. It also includes a specially designed Blue Ice pack to keep lunches chilled. All of the containers snap together in different configurations to save space in your lunch bag.

Sandwich Kit components

The Blue Ice pack has cutouts on one side, and raised areas on the other so that you can place it either in between your containers, or underneath just one.

While I don't yet pack lunch for my children, I do take my lunch to work with me most days of the week. Not only does it save money, it saves my waistline too! I usually take either a sandwich or a salad, along with some fruits and veggies, which are usually packed in different size storage bags. I was excited to try out the LunchBlox kit because I would love to be a little greener and not use so many of those little plastic bags all the time.

My husband packs our lunches most mornings since he doesn't require quite the time that I do getting ready. He got my lunch ready one day last week and packed it all into the LunchBlox components. My chicken salad sandwich fit very well in the sandwich container, and he put some celery with cream cheese in the larger snack container. We were out of fruit that day, so the two small containers were filled with baby carrots.

Packing lunch with LunchBlox

Once the compartments were filled, he snapped everything together with the Blue Ice in between. I'm impressed at how well everything snaps together and doesn't come off. This makes it so easy to transport the LunchBlox.

Lunch in LunchBlox

When I first opened the LunchBlox Sandwich Kit, I thought it was a neat idea, but figured I would test it out and never use it again. That is definitely not the case. I think this is such a great product, and I will be using it again and again. Everything packs up nicely and stays chilled until I am ready to eat it. Since the components are dishwasher safe, clean up is a breeze, and I became a little greener since I am no longer using several plastic bags every day.

In fact, I plan on buying more LunchBlox kits for different types of lunches. I usually take salads for lunch, so the Salad Kit would be perfect for me. The Entree Kit would be great for leftovers on the rare nights we have them. Regardless of what you (or your kids) take for lunch, there is a LunchBlox kit for you.

We do have a refrigerator at work, so keeping my lunches cold is not an issue. That will be a different story when my kids go to school, though. Rubbermaid also makes LunchBlox Lunch Bags that are designed to work with the LunchBlox containers. There is a small bag for the Sandwich and Salad Kits, and a larger bag for the Entree Kit. These bags are insulated and have a pocket on the side for a drink.

LunchBlox Bag

I no longer dread the days when I have to pack lunch for my kids when they go off to school. Now I have LunchBlox to make packing lunches easy! I hope that at some point Rubbermaid will make the bags with kid-friendly designs, because these really are the perfect way to pack school lunches!

LunchBlox Food Storage items are microwave-, dishwasher- and freezer-safe, and even more important, they are BPA free. They are currently available for purchase at Rubbermaid.com, Target, Kmart, Kroger, Safeway, Bi-Lo, Winn-Dixie, HEB, other grocery stores and select Wal-Mart stores. The suggested retail value of the Sandwich Kit is $12.99, and at the time of this review, I found it for $11.77 on Amazon, and eligible for free shipping through Prime.

If you pack lunches for yourself or your kids, I highly recommend the LunchBlox kits! To learn more, visit Rubbermaid.com. You can also follow Rubbermaid on Facebook and Twitter to learn about the latest products and tips for organizing your home.

I like the look of these. They aren't to big and you don't have to worry about anything spilling. My kids love when I put carrots and ranch dressing in their lunches. This would be perfect!

I just love the salad lunch box...my husband is forever running to McD's for double burgers and whoa, it's time for both of us to get on the salad bus. This would make it so easy for him to eat healthy cuz he has a fridge close by his office area. The kids have to take bags now with no containers, as they can't go back into their rooms after lunch to put away something like this...so silly. Thanks for the great review!

I bought the sandwich kit for my daughter's school lunches and LOVE it. While there are technically too many containers for her lunch, I've found I can get 2 days out of the kit (ya know, just in case the dishwasher fairy misses us one night ;) ). And I'd really like an entree kit for my husband. :)
