Reunited

Rylie started daycare at two months old. It was a sad day for me, but the start of so many good things in her life. One of those good things is the amount of friends Rylie has made over the last four and a half years. She is still friends with several of the kids who she was in the infant room with at her first daycare, and one of those friends is Angelica.

Angelica's mom and I became friends online while we were pregnant, and then met in person shortly after Angelica was born. We became great friends, and we still are today. Rylie and Angelica spent a year or so together at our first daycare and then ended up at different daycare centers for various reasons. They were reunited again at our current daycare where they were inseparable. They truly were best friends.

Back in January, Angelica relocated to Boston with her family because of a great job opportunity that her dad was given. While I was excited for him and his new job, I was sad for Rylie and Angelica because I knew they would miss each other like crazy. Andrea and Angelica came over and had dinner with us a couple of nights before they left, and I had these picture frames made up for the girls so that they would always remember each other.

The girls have missed each other terribly. Rylie looks at her picture frame all the time and asks when we can get on a plane to go see Angelica.

I was so excited to find out that our friends were coming back to Florida for a visit last week, so we made plans to get together this past Sunday. Rylie was so excited to see her friend and couldn't wait for her to get here!

We had planned to go swimming and have a little cookout, but the usual Florida afternoon rain stalled our plans for a while. The girls didn't care. They played a game and then disappeared upstairs in Rylie's room where they played dress up and whatever else 4 year old girls do.

After the rain stopped, the kids and the dads got their suits on and went swimming. Unlike Rylie and Bryce, Angelica isn't around pools all that often so she was a little apprehensive at first. Rylie was so cute trying to coax her off the steps so that they could play in the water together.

Rylie and Bryce even demonstrated how easy it was to just jump right in, but Angelica wasn't falling for it. She was fine just watching those two crazies.

The girls had a great time dumping water on Angelica's dad's head. Scott is so much fun to be around and the kids just absolutely LOVE him!

Silly girls

Once Angelica was properly outfitted in enough floats to keep a 300 pound person above water, it was time for some swimming.

Swimmin friends

The girls had so much fun together! They got out of the pool and jumped on the trampoline for a bit, and then we all headed back inside for dinner. Brian cooked up some burgers and dogs on the grill and we all ate and chatted. After dinner, the girls continued to play. My house ended up trashed, but they had fun and that was all that mattered. We didn't want the night to end!

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, so it was time to give hugs and say goodbye.

Rylie and Angelica Best Friends

I am so glad Rylie got to spend some time with her best friend again! She is now back to asking when we can get on a plane to go see Angelica. I think that since my kids have never seen snow, we might just have to make a trip up to that frigid climate early next year!

Thank you so much Andrea and Scott for coming to visit. We miss you guys so much and I hope we can get together again soon!

It is so hard on kids when one of their friends have to move away. With my husband being in the military we face this problem often and it never gets any easier on the kids or adults!

Angelica had SO MUCH FUN seeing Rylie and Bryce again! She's already talking about coming back for another visit. It was so cool to see how time and distance can't break these two apart :) We had a great time seeing you both as well. Thanks for having us over, and I hope we get to do it again soon, either here in the frigid north or down there in Sunny Florida :) BTW Angelica has her "Friends" frame like Rylie's on her bookshelf too :)

I'm so crazy, gave me goosebumps reading. I hope you do go visit her best friend sometime in the near future. Before you know it, they'll be on the internet and phone keeping in touch and will remain close friends. I loved this story and the pics!

I think it's great that you have made pictures for both of tem to remember each other. It is sad when a friend has to move away. Maybe you could try letting them Skype each other until you can make a trip to see them.

What is so amazing is that you parents sound like you will help keep this friendship going for a very long time if not always! The problem with our moving society now is that a lot of "besties" get separated and you wonder if a lasting friendship may have taken place. With girls, that "sister type" friendship only happens a few times in a lifetime...and it's said only a handful of these kinds of friends is what is special and necessary in a girl's life. Any more and they/you don't have the time and heart for. (yeah, I know guys have "brother" relationships that last too, I have two sons who have actually done so, so far). How cool is THAT for YOU to have that with Angelica's mom, the guys to have that, and now the girls. You could still be friends in your 80's and the kids in their 50's or 60's. that is rare and so incredible!
Hope you get to visit during the snowtime, but that is when all us who are freezing our buns off want to head to Florida! funny!
