You're at the beach with your family having a fun day of splashing in the water and building sandcastles. Your kids are running across the sand when all of the sudden one of them falls face first into it. When he gets up, he is covered in sand...it is in his mouth, his ears, and worst of all, his eyes. All he wants to do is rub them, but you know that will make it worse. So what do you do?
This scenario has never happened to us, but it definitely could. I don't know what I would do. If I had a bottle of water handy, I would probably try to flush my child's eyes out with that. Or run over to one of those beach showers and try to get him to open his eyes while the water ran into them.
I now have a better solution for any time my kids get something in their eyes. That solution is OcuFresh Eye Wash by Optics Laboratory.
This preservative-free eye wash is a safe, reliable means for cleansing your eyes to help relieve from itching and discomfort. In urgent care situations, OcuFresh quickly and safely cleanses out irritants, dirt, chlorinated water and other loose foreign materials like the beach sand mentioned in the scenario above.
The OcuFresh Eye Wash comes in single-use vials, that can be used alone, or with the included cup. You can easily toss a couple into your beach bag, diaper bag, or purse so you have them on hand in case of emergency. This single-use package design ensures sterile application.
OcuFresh is a preservative-free formulation which will not irritate your eyes. It is safe and effective for the whole family. I have a vial in our "go bag" as part of our first-aid kit. You never know when you might need it! We have been lucky that we haven't needed to use our OcuFresh, but I like having it on hand in case we ever do.
OcuFresh can also be used regularly for cleansing your eyes to remove pollen, irritants or dirt that cause discomfort in your eyes. It is available at several drugstores, and online at sites like Amazon and Drugstore.com. At the time of this review I found it on Amazon for around $11 for 6 vials, or $36 for 60 vials.
Optics Laboratory also makes other great products for your eyes:
MiniDrops: Comforts and Moisturizes. Just use a drop or two gives you temporary relief from burning and minor irritation due to dry eyes and protects your eyes from more irritation.
OcuSave: Ensures vitality and health for your eyes with one soft gel per day. May help prevent or slow progression of the natural degeneration of your eyes and reduces the risk of cataracts. Contains essential minerals and vitamins that support ocular nutrition. (These statements have not been evaluated by Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.)
Eye-Cept: Rewetting Drops for use with daily wear and extended wear soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses. It refreshes eyes, moistens lenses and helps remove particles which can cause irritation and discomfort. Use as needed throughout the day.
I have been using the MiniDrops, and I love them! My eyes tend to get very dry from my long hours in front of a computer screen, so I carry these in my purse for those times when my eyes are really bothering me. They soothe my eyes instantly, and don't burn like some eye drops can. They also come in single-use vials, so they are easy to carry with you.
