A week or so ago a few of my friends and I were chatting about appliances during dinner. Most of the conversation revolved around how most appliances just don't last that long. It seems that after a few years they start to have problems and become less dependable. My mom then joined in the conversation and her first statement was "Hey, I have had a Maytag dryer for over 40 years and it still works great!"
Wait. What? An appliance that has lasted for over 40 years? It was unheard of in my circle of friends.
I knew that my mom's dryer was older than me, but I never realized it was made by Maytag. I wish I had known this sooner because it could have saved us a lot of money over the years. I have never owned a Maytag appliance. There is no real reason for that, I guess I just never ended up with that brand. Until now, that is. When I realized that my mom's dryer was a Maytag, I was even more excited about becoming a Maytag Laundry Mom because I have faith that my Bravos XL Washer and Dryer will last for many years to come.
For over 100 years, Maytag has designed dependable appliances to accompany our everyday lives. For my family, our everyday lives are busy, and I can't take time out to troubleshoot problems with my appliances, especially my washer and dryer. Since I am not home that much, I don't usually have a full day that I can spend doing all of our laundry from the previous week. Therefore, I may have to quickly wash and dry my favorite jeans for a night out, or I may need to clean Rylie's dance clothes on a Friday evening before her early Saturday morning dance class. When I need to do laundry, I need for my washer and dryer to work!
So far I am loving my new Bravos XL pair, but this isn't my mom's washer and dryer, that's for sure. Maytag continues to innovate in order to better support our families' needs, and these appliances have come a long way in the last 40 years. My mom's dryer has a timer in the middle, and that is about all there is to it. My new Bravos XL washer and dryer has buttons for just about every laundry task you can imagine!
Got laundry? There's a cycle for that!
The Maytag Bravos XL HE Top Load Washer features 13 specialty cycles to take the guesswork out of laundry. I no longer need to guess which water temperature I should use for my towels, or which spin speed I should use when I wash my king sized quilt. My washer figures all of that out for me when I select the type of laundry I am doing with the spin dial in the middle of the display. There are also modifiers on the side if you would rather wash your clothes in cold water, than with the warm water that the washer auto selects.
This washer also includes the PowerWash system which uses a combination of extra cleaning action and a thorough rinse to power out tough stains and deliver the best cleaning in the industry. The washer's PowerSpray Technology sprays a mixture of water and detergent directly on clothes to instantly start cleaning them. I can depend on my washer to thoroughly clean all of my family's clothes...even those that have been at the playground all day or were used to catch spilled food. If your family suffers from allergies, there is even an Allergen Cycle that helps eliminate 95 percent of common household allergies. Even though Brian and I both suffer from seasonal allergies, I have not used this cycle due to the requirement of hot water.
The Bravos XL High-Efficiency Electric Steam Dryer also has several pre-set cycles. From your delicate clothes to your towels, simply rotate the knob for the type of laundry you are drying. I can depend on my new dryer to dry every load of my laundry on the proper heat setting.
My favorite cycle is definitely the auto refresh cycle which uses steam to relax wrinkles and refresh clothes. One of my most dreaded household tasks is ironing, so if my clothes sit in the dryer too long after they are dry and end up wrinkled, I can just turn the dryer on the auto refresh cycle, and the wrinkles are gone. I love this feature!
No, this isn't my mom's 40 year old Maytag dryer, but I'm hoping it will deliver the same dependability that I will be able to count on for the next 40 years...

I am ALSO the mom who has the one button on my W & D. Holy COW! That display looks like NASA central with all those buttons. Mine are 13 years old and purchased as the cheapest, we could not afford more. I have since reconsidered that whole policy...because if an appliance does WAY better at cleaning (cooking, cooling, etc) and is more energy efficient, then you should maybe pay extra and call it all even. With 6 kids I have done literally tens of thousands of loads in the past 30 plus years. Better, faster, cleaner. You sold ME, Lee Ann!
Oh how I wish I would have known all of this. Maybe I'm wrong but my daughter recently purchased one, well...about a year ago and not sure what brand exactly. This is not only awesome but nice looking as well. I think my other daughter has the Maytag. I know hers also has that wrinkle release and we all love that feature. Sometimes, we just get too busy and it sits too long and then...wrinkles. You did a nice review on this. I love the allergy cycle. My grandson suffers with allergies.
