Rubbermaid 2-in-1 Recycler {Review & Giveaway}

Rubbermaid

When it comes to carbon footprints, I hate to admit this, but mine is fairly large. I drive a huge, gas guzzling SUV, I tend to be pretty wasteful, and I just don't have the energy for recycling. I have watched my mom's recycling efforts for years and between the extra time it takes to rinse containers out and then having to "store" them on the counters until you get a chance to take them out to the garage and place them in the proper bin, I just can't be bothered. Awful, I know. I do want to be more eco-friendly, though, and while I'm not going to trade in my SUV for a small electric car any time soon, we are going to start recycling in our house.

So why the change in attitude? I recently had the chance to try out the Rubbermaid 2-in-1 Recycler, and recycling became just a little bit easier. I will still have to rinse out the containers, but this bin makes it easy to store and sort recyclables so they stay off my counters.

Rubbermaid 2-in-1 Recycler

The Rubbermaid 2-in-1 Recycler:
  • Is a perfect solution for containing waste and recycling all in one location or for sorting recyclables.
  • Keeps recyclables off the counter by giving them a place to live in your kitchen.
  • The bottom tilt out bin holds a standard 8-gallon trash bag AND features LinerLock™ bag management, so your bag stays put and does not slip.
  • Both the top bin and bottom bin have convenient handles when needed to transport recyclables to wherever your recycling is stored for pick-up or transport.
  • The 2-in-1 Recycler fits more recyclables while using 25% less floor space compared to typical divided containers.
  • Made with recyclable materials and is recyclable.
When we set out to use this great recycling system, we decided to use the bottom bin for regular trash, and the top bin for recyclable items. I have never had a trash can that kept the bag in place well, so I was happy to see the sticker about the LinerLock™ system.

Garbage bag stays put

You simply lift the handles while you position the bag down in the bin, and then fold the bag over the handles before you put them back down. The bag really does stay in place even when you open and close it several times a day like we do in our house.

Bottom bin for trash

The bottom bin has a ledge at the bottom so it can be opened with your foot, which is great if you have your hands full. Plus, it keeps you from having to touch the germy garbage can as much.

Since we really had no idea what types of items were able to be recycled, my mom gave us some lessons while she was here last week, and we ended up filling up the top bin with plastic bottles and aluminum cans.

Top bin for recyclables

The recycling bin is full now after a week with my mom, so now what? Well, I went to our county's website to find out what the procedure was for recycling. I requested two bins since they ask that you sort paper in one, and everything else in the other, and they should be here in the next day or so. Those bins then go out to the curb on Tuesdays for pick up. Easy peasy.

The 2-in-1 Recycler makes it easy to transfer your recyclables and trash once the bins are full. Both bins have handles on them, and the lid pops off easily and can be placed on the bottom level if you have the top level out.

The Rubbermaid 2-in-1 Recycler is a great tool for storing and transporting recyclable items, and from now on, we are going to use it for just that purpose. We go through a lot of garbage in this house, and we found that we were having to take the garbage out of the bottom bin very frequently. Since the county requires that you sort your recyclables into two different bins, this will make that sorting easy.

The Recycler is very lightweight, which isn't such a great feature when you have two little kids who are stronger than they look. They step on that bottom plate with such force that the whole unit wobbles. The good news is that it hasn't fallen over, and since we have it placed up against our cabinet, it probably won't.

Overall, I do like the 2-in-1 Recycler, and we will continue to use it in our attempts to treat this great planet a little better. This simple sorting bin really did change my mind about recycling!

Be sure to check out all of the new Rubbermaid recycling products on Rubbermaid.com! The 2-in-1 Recycler retails for $39.99 and can be found online at Rubbermaid.com, and in store at Meijer.

I couldn't live without the 75 Qt DuraChill™ Wheeled 6-Day Cooler! After the tornado that hit us one year on April 27 we were without power for 12 days! This cooler along with another Rubbermaid cooler was our "refrigerators" during the power outage! So we will be keeping coolers in our safe room!

We have 6 of the "Chug Bottles" and use them all the time. I don't buy individual bottles of water or juice any more, we just fill these up & take them with us. They fit great in some insulated bottle wraps that we already had & also fit nicely in our small soft sided cooler to take on picnics!
