Spring Into Family Time With The Instep Sierra Bicycle Trailer {Review}

Instep logo

Now that Spring is in the air it's the perfect time of year to get outside and get active. The weather is perfect, the trees and flowers are blooming, there's a wonderful aroma in the air, so why not! One of the best ways to stay active, especially when you have a family is bicycling.

We have come a long way from toting our baby or young child in a small seat attached to the back of a bicycle. That way made it difficult to stay balanced and it was just awkward. Instep has made it their mission to create easy and affordable ways for parents to stay active by creating products like jogging strollers and bicycle trailers.

At InSTEP® we pride ourselves on Joggers and Trailers that not only measure up to your expectations of comfort, performance and convenience, but do it at an outstanding value price. More features. More function. Plus great style and sharp colors you’ll be proud to roll out on the town with – hey, becoming a parent doesn’t have to mean surrendering all sense of taste.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to test out the Instep Sierra Double Bicycle Trailer. I had been eyeing a double bike trailer ever since I got pregnant with our second son. We enjoyed our active lifestyle and felt it didn't need to end just because we had kids, so a double bike trailer seemed like a great option to help us stay fit while spending time with our boys.

When the Instep Sierra Double Bicycle Trailer arrived it came in several pieces and I thought it would take me all afternoon to put together. Okay well maybe not all afternoon, but at least an hour or two. Thankfully I was so wrong!

Within a matter of 15 to 20 minutes the bike trailer was ready to take out on a test run. The directions were very easy to follow which is always helpful. The boys couldn't wait to get inside; (as you can see below) they were climbing in it as I put it together.

One of my favorite features about the Instep Sierra Bike Trailer is that it converts to a stroller! The stroller kit includes a swiveling front wheel and handle bar making it a luxury product, but without the steep price. You can easily add the swiveling third wheel and secure it with a locking pin and you're good to go!

Instep Sierra Double Stroller

We used the Instep Sierra Double Bicycle Trailer at Sea World this weekend in place of our double stroller and it was perfect! There's even a place in the back of the stroller to house our diaper bag and snap it shut so it's not visible to others around us. Instep has thought of everything! It also has two pockets inside the trailer for snacks or drink cups for the kids. The stroller is about as wide as a double stroller and with the extended bar and swiveling wheel it's almost as long as a tandem stroller.

Another feature I appreciate in the Instep Sierra Bike Trailer is the deluxe harness and seat with padding for the kids comfort. The harness is just like a car seat with the 5 point strap safety system which is important since the bike trailer is meant for the on-the-go.

The Instep Sierra Double Bike Trailer includes many other features:

·        16” pneumatic tires with molded rims provide performance and style

·        Folding frame design with quick release wheels makes it compact

·        2-in1 canopy includes a bug screen and weather shield

·        Versatile bicycle coupler attaches to most bicycles

·        Includes stroller kit with swiveling front wheel & handle bar

·        Parking brake offers extra safety while in stroller mode

·        Deluxe harness & seat with padding for added child comfort

It's hard to find something I do not like about the Instep Sierra Bicycle Trailer! The bug screen and weather shield are very convenient and great for blocking the sun or rain. I like that I can roll up the front and back canopy shades offering the boys some air while still having the bug shield in place.

It was painless to attach the trailer to a bicycle. Using a wrench, you remove the hub nut and washer from the bike's back wheel then add the tab washer and coupler plate to the axle and place the hub nut and washer back on the axle and tighten. It took my husband a matter of 2 minutes to complete the transition. He then checked the bike and trailer tires and added air where needed so we could take it on a ride.

The kids absolutely loved the 2 mile bike ride and wanted to go again right away! Daddy was tired and needed a break, but we went out for a ride the following evening and pretty much every evening since then.

The Instep Sierra Double Bicycle Trailer is conveniently priced at $150 MSRP. It's available for purchase at most box stores and online at Amazon.com. Overall I'm very impressed with the Instep Sierra and highly recommend it to all parents that are or want to stay active. You can't beat the value of having a bike trailer that coverts to a double stroller, especially when you can do it in a matter of a few minutes!

I have an instep one but it doesn't have the stroller capabilities. I'm jealous!

I could totally take advantage of one of these! They are too cool. I love that you can hook it on back of a bike too!

I've been thinking of getting something like this to use for riding at the beach. Thank you so much for your review! I didn't even think of the added benefit of having it for a stroller when we reach our destination.

Thanks for the review, I was debating between this trailer and a more expensive one and your review helped me decide to go with this one. Looking forward to getting it soon.
