Bob Evans Sausage Chili {Recipe}

Bob Evans

Confession time: I did not watch the Super Bowl. I wouldn't have even known who was playing if it hadn't been for my Facebook feed that night. We're not sports fans in this house, but that didn't stop us from making some delicious "Game-Day" food.

I recently received some ground sausage from Bob Evans, along with a recipe for Sausage Chili, a portable slow cooker and some really cool football bowls. This portable slow cooker has a 12-volt power cord, so you can actually cook your food while you are traveling or tailgating, or keep your food warm while you transport it to a party. Sausage Chili is a great Game-Day dish to eat at home, or take with you.

We got into the football spirit on Superbowl Sunday and decided to try out the Sausage Chili.

Bob Evans Sausage Chili Recipe

Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cook Time: 20 Minutes
Makes: 6 Servings

Ingredients
  • 1 pound Bob Evans Zesty Hot or Original Recipe Sausage Roll
  • 1 package chili seasoning mix (1.25 oz)
  • 2 cans diced tomato with onions (14.5 oz)
  • 1 can light red kidney beans, undrained (15.5 oz)
Preparation

In large saucepan, crumble and cook sausage over medium heat until browned. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

SLOW-COOKER OPTION: Crumble uncooked sausage into bite-size pieces and put in slow-cooker. Add remaining ingredients. Stir gently. Cover and cook on low heat 4-6 hours. Stir before serving.

We added some sharp cheddar cheese and sour cream to the top of our chili!

Bob Evans Sausage Chili

I had never thought to make chili with sausage before, and this was delicious! We used the Bob Evans Zesty Hot Sausage and it gave the chili just the right amount of kick to it. The chili was a little watery, though, even though we let it simmer even longer than it was supposed to with the hope that it would thicken up some. I will most likely use tomato sauce next time like I usually do, rather than the diced tomatoes.

This is a great recipe for any game day party, or just for a cold winter night!

Disclosure: All opinions are my own. I received the Bob Evans Sausage and other supplies mentioned above for the purpose of this post. No other compensation was received.

Love that it's a slow-cooker recipe, so you can be enjoying the game (if you're interested, that is!) instead of watching the stove. I'll have to try this some weekend soon!
