Last month I introduced you to Coca-Cola's Arctic Home Program, which is Coca-Cola's partnership with the World Wildlife Fund that was created to raise awareness and funds to help create a safe haven for the polar bear. Since polar bears are facing the loss of their habitat due to the sea ice melting at unprecedented rates, the Coca-Cola Company has developed the Arctic Home project to ensure the polar bear has a place to call home in the future.
Polar bears have been part of Coca-Cola tradition since 1922, representing icy cold refreshment and friends and family togetherness. But the polar bears need our help in the Arctic. Coca-Cola has made a commitment to helping the WWF and polar bear habitat preservation by donating an initial $2 million and matching donations through March—up to $1 million. To have Coca-Cola match your donation, simply text the code on specially-marked Arctic Home packages to 357357. You can also make donations online at ArcticHome.com. Each donation accompanied by a code from specially-marked packages will not only be matched, but a designated parcel of the virtual Arctic Home refuge will be donated in your name on the site.
The Arctic Home website is such a cool website to visit! Not only is there a ton of information available about polar bears, you can also track polar bears that have been tagged. When you click on a bear, you will find a summary about the bear, and then you can track them through the virtual refuge. I have to admit that I have spent entirely too much time stalking the polar bears this evening!
To help raise awareness to this great cause, you can now find limited edition red "Arctic Home" cans on store shelves!
Another way Coca-Cola is spreading the word about how you can help these beautiful creatures is by providing some fun prizes for a giveaway right here on this blog. And let me tell you, this is an awesome giveaway! We were sent one of the giveaway packages, and my kids were so excited about it that I wasn't even able to get a photo of everything together. Rylie snatched up the polar bear pillow and super soft red blanket. She quickly found out that the pillow turns into a polar bear friend!
Bryce had fun cuddling with the polar bear stuffed animal, especially since it matched the polar bears on his jammies!
Please take a few minutes to check out Coca-Cola's Arctic Home. Have some fun learning about the polar bears, and then see how you can help. Remember, Coca-Cola is matching donations, so every little bit counts!

Coke has teamed up with WWF and I am so happy about it!! I love polar bears and have a deep passion to save them, I have donated and shared and passed the word along but most people will not donate their coke points or the $1 starbucks coffee they drink daily, sad people say they are doing it and don't! Let's do this like I know we can!

I learned a lot that I didn't know... I didn't know that their home is becoming so small and that is it such a problem, I knew about the warming and stuff but I didn't know how much influence it has... I want them to have a place they can call home, like the video said...
I learned that interestingly, depending on the age and condition of the bear, it will eat different parts of a kill. Adult bears in good condition generally eat only the calorie-rich skin and blubber of seals, while young bears and adults in poor condition consume the protein-rich red meat as well.

I learned a few things I can do to help, and they will also help me save money:
-Replace standard light bulbs with compact flourescent bulbs (CFLs).
-Plant trees to absorb carbon dioxide and provide natural cooling by shading your home from the sun.
-Collect rain to water your plants.
-Take shorter showers.
-Install an inexpensive low-flow showerhead.
My kids love all the fun pictures and how you can actually track the bears!

I learned the polar bears sometimes hunt beluga whales!
The field work for these projects is very expensive—between $3,000 and $4,000 per bear—but provides important information about a bear's health. WWF contributes funds to this important research to learn more about how the melting sea ice is affecting both the long-term condition of the species and its Arctic habitat. As a large carnivore, the polar bear is a sensitive indicator of ecosystem health. Therefore, a polar bear at risk is often a sign of something wrong somewhere in the Arctic marine ecosystem.
