Are You Prepared?

Living in Florida we are prone to natural disasters like hurricanes or floods. Each year when hurricane season begins we are reminded as Florida residents to stock up on water, canned foods, batteries and other supplies necessary to help us in an emergency situation. Some people take the necessary steps to protect themselves in case of such disasters while others choose to ignore the advice given.

While the East Coast worries about hurricanes, the West Coast has threats of fires and earthquakes, the Midwest has the risk of tornadoes, and the North faces fierce snow storms each year. All of these situations can cause power outages, including shutting down your local grocery stores, gas stations, etc for days, possibly weeks.

Now that my husband and I are parents, it's not just us that we have to worry about. We are responsible for our children's safety and well being and that includes being prepared for emergency situations. Having a food supply is just one way to give people the peace of mind needed before a crisis, and keep them fed during a drought or disaster. Emergency food supplies go way beyond just canned goods these days. Websites such as http://preparewise.com/ have a vast variety of freeze dried meals available. www.preparewise.com offers wonderful benefits of long term food storage with up to 25 years of shelf life!

There are other reasons to be prepared besides natural disasters though. It is helpful to have prepared food ready in case you fall ill or even in situations where you do not have transportation. Another great reason to have a food supply is after giving birth to a child. I know when I had each of my children, I was so thankful to have my Mom nearby to help out with the cooking and cleaning for a few days. When you are sleep deprived (and in pain) you are just not in the mood to cook. Unfortunately not all new parents are lucky enough to have family close by to assist them with these daily tasks. Websites like Prepare Wise offers perfect packages that are easy for grab and go and would be a wonderful help in situations like these.

Those are just a few of the reasons why prepared food storage can be beneficial. So are you prepared?

I like to stock up. You never know when a blizzard may hit. When we lived on the Gulf coast of Florida, we made sure to have back-up as hurricanes forced us out on several occasions.

No, I suck and I live down the road from you so it isn't like I dont' know better. But hey, at least now I know where to go in an emergency. ;)
