Protect Your Child's Eyes With Babiators {Review & Giveaway}

Babiators

There is a recurring theme popping up here at The Life of Rylie...and Bryce too! That theme is summer, and all the fun that comes with it. When we think of the hot, sunny days that summer brings, we also think about how to protect ourselves from the heat and the sun. We drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. We apply sunscreen to protect our skin from the sun's damaging rays. We wear sunglasses because it is just too bright outside and constantly squinting is no fun.

I always wear sunglasses when I am outside. I don't drive without them. Even on cloudy days I usually have my sunglasses on. Not only do sunglasses keep me from squinting, they protect my eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. My kids wear sunglasses too. Well, Rylie does. Bryce hasn't gotten to where he really likes them yet. They both have light blue eyes and are very sensitive to the sun, so when we are outdoors, I always try to get them to wear sunglasses.

Children's eyes have fewer natural protections against UV exposure than adults do. It has also been concluded through published scientific research that up to 50% of lifetime UV ray exposure may occur by age 18, so it is very important to make sure your child's eyes are protected from the sun! Babiators protect your child's eyes by offering 100% protection from UVA and UVB rays.

Babiators sunglasses are safe, durable and awesome! Not only do they offer 100% protection from UVA and UVB rays, they are made without BPA, phthalates, lead, or other harmful materials. The acrylic lenses are impact and shatter resistant. The frames are made from rubber, rather than the typical plastic, so they can withstand whatever your child throws at them. And as far as being awesome - well, who doesn't look cool in aviator-style sunglasses?

Babiators Blue Angels Blue

We received a pair of Babiators for review. Babiators come in two sizes: Junior Babiators (Ages 1-3) and Classic Babiators (Ages 3+). They come in four great colors - Black Ops Black, Blue Angels Blue, Rockstar Red and Princess Pink. I really LOVE the Princess Pink, but since Rylie has several pairs of sunglasses, we went with the Junior Babiators in Blue Angels Blue for Bryce.

Bryce wearing Babiators

I was surprised at first that Bryce let me put the Babiators on him, and even more surprised that he left them on. They are very lightweight, and they seemed comfortable. I think once he realized that he wouldn't have to squint any longer, he actually liked wearing them. He played outside for a while, and left his cool sunglasses on the whole time.

Bryce wearing Babiators

The Babiators fit his head and face as far as the general size, but they did slide down his nose some. It didn't seem to bother him at all, and he would just keep pushing them up while he was playing. Unfortunately, when they slide down, those UV rays can sneak in through the top. These will still be great for the car when he is sitting still, and hopefully once he grows a little bit they will stay up on him.

The Junior Babiators actually fit perfectly on Rylie. She is 3.5, but the website does say that if you are unsure about the size to order the smaller size. If your child is on the smaller side like Rylie is, I would definitely go with the Junior Babiators.

Rylie wearing Babiators Rylie wearing Babiators

Overall, I really like the Babiators. I feel that it is safe to let the kids run around and play with them on, because I don't think they will break and injure their faces. I also feel confident that the lenses stand up to their claims that they protect children's eyes 100% from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Oh, and they just look cool too.

Babiators retail for $19.99, and can be purchased online, or at select retail stores. I feel that this is a very reasonable price for these great sunglasses! All Babiators come with a Wear and Tear Guarantee, and they will replace them if they do happen to break (from normal wear and tear) within a year from purchase.

Get Sun Certified With Banana Boat {Review & Giveaway}

Banana Boat
Summer is officially here! Here in sunny Florida, though, it has felt like summer for a while now. Last week our temperatures were over 100 with the heat index! On days like those, we are so lucky that we have a pool. My kids love to be outside, so our pool gives us the opportunity to get out of the house and still keep cool.

Rylie in pool Bryce in pool

My little fish know, though, that before we do any type of outdoor activity they have to be covered in sunscreen. Rylie and Bryce have very fair skin and would probably burn easily. Thanks to sunscreen products by Banana Boat, we haven't had to find that out yet! Of course the big worry surrounding sun exposure is skin cancer. I want to protect my children in every possible way I can, and protecting their skin from the sun's harmful rays is something that I can easily do.

Did you know that you are supposed to wear sunscreen year round? Yes, that's right! A lot of us only think about sunscreen during the summer months, but you should wear sunscreen every day, even if you are just driving in the car from one indoor place to another. The UVA rays pass through car windows, and hey, you have to get out of the car sometime! Read about more ways to protect yourself by downloading this great Sun 101 Fact Sheet.

This sun season, Banana Boat sun care is setting out to raise $101,000 for The Skin Cancer Foundation by “sun certifying” 101,000 Americans. As part of the brand’s Sun 101 education campaign, Banana Boat is helping to teach Americans about the basics of sun protection.

You can get sun certified on Banana Boat's Facebook Page, by taking a short “Sun Certification” quiz. (You will want to read the fact sheet I mentioned above first.) You will receive a “Sun Certified” badge to display on your own Facebook wall and trigger a $1 donation to support The Skin Cancer Foundation’s sun education initiatives, for a total donation of up to $101,000.

Sun Certification Badge

I got Sun Certified and received my badge! Now go get yours and help raise that $101,000!

We have used Banana Boat products for several years now. I remember the first time I looked for a sunscreen for the kids, I think it was the only one I could find that was "tear free", so we gave it a try. We continue to use the Banana Boat family of products today!

Banana Boat has some NEW product options for 2011:
  • Tear Free, Sting Free – the #1 line of Tear Free Sunscreens, Banana Boat Kids & Baby, adds a clinically proven “Sting Free” claim to its products.
  • SPF 110 UltraMist Sunscreen Continuous Clear Sprays – Continuous Spray sunscreens with SPF 110, the highest protection available in a continuous spray.
  • Family Size Sunscreen – 12 oz. Family Size Pump bottle. Available in Banana Boat Sport Performance SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion and Banana Boat Kids Tear Free Sting Free SPF 50 Sunscreen Lotion.
Banana Boat Tear Free, Sting Free Sunscreen Banana Boat SPF 110 UltraMist Sunscreen Banana Boat Family Size Sunscreen

We received a bottle of the SPF110 UltraMist Sunscreen and a Family Size bottle of the Tear Free, Sting Free Sunscreen for review. I mentioned that we have been using the Tear Free, Sting Free product for a while now, and we really like it. I do like the sprays better than the lotion, because they are so easy to apply, especially on the little ones that don't like to hold still for much of anything. The coverage is always great, and we never have any problems with missing spots.

The only drawback to the spray bottles is that you will want to use them outside. If you use them inside, the over spray will get on your floors, or any furniture you are near. That is why it is always good to have a bottle of the lotion on hand. I also like to use the lotion when the kids have regular clothes on so I don't get the spray on their clothes.

We are 100% satisfied with the Banana Boat products we have tried. Not only do we use them on the kids, Brian and I use them also, and they protect our skin just as well!

My kids are used to getting sprayed with sunscreen before we go swimming, or participate in any other kind of outdoor activities. They know to hold their arms out and close their eyes. Rylie will even go get the sunscreen before we go outside. She already knows it is part of our routine.

Rylie with sunscreen Bryce with sunscreen

You will always want to reapply sunscreen every two hours or after swimming. After lunch is usually a great time for this!

During the summer months, and all year round, make sure your skin is protected from the sun's harmful rays. Banana Boat has a wide variety of products to fit your skin care needs!

Tell Us Something Good: Siblings {Linky}

The Life of Rylie...and Bryce too!

Welcome to Tell Us Something Good! I'm so glad you're here. Every Tuesday, my friend Andrea from Angelica's Awesome Adventures and I will be sharing something good with you. We hope that you will share something good with us too. So grab the button at the top, tell us something good on your blog, and link up your post at the linky on the bottom.

I have to admit that after enduring yet another sad goodbye around here, it was really difficult for me to think of something good for this post. I was actually racking my brain Sunday night trying to come up with something, and I just couldn't. To top everything off, I wasn't feeling well, so that just added to my misery.

But then I heard it. I heard the one sound that can always turn my sorrow into glee. The one sound that can bring me back from the depths of the despair I have been feeling lately. That sound, my friends, is the sound of my children laughing.

Apparently I wasn't thinking when I trusted them with markers while I folded some laundry in my room. They were supposed to be coloring on Rylie's Doodle Bear, and on nothing else. I could hear them discussing which of the bear's body parts they were coloring on, but then that discussion stopped. They were laughing. Cracking up laughing. And they kept saying "boop!" "Boop?" What's so funny? I said "you guys better not be coloring on anything else except that bear!" Then I heard whispering. I went around the corner to find that they were both covered with little marker dots. Apparently "boop!" was the sound they would make when they would write on each other. Apparently they were now Doodle Rylie and Doodle Bryce. I couldn't help but laugh.

So why is this good, you ask? Well, the marker washes off (eventually), so that wasn't a big deal. It wasn't like they colored all over the walls. I was just happy to hear them laughing and playing together so well. They have been playing well together a lot lately. It is so much nicer than hearing the screams when one grabs a toy from the other.

Rylie & Bryce Rylie & Bryce

Not only are they playing well together, Rylie has really taken on the "big sister" role lately and is trying to teach Bryce the ways of the world. Sure, there are some things we don't necessarily want her teaching him, like how to blow bubbles in his milk at the dinner table, but hey, I guess he has to learn it somewhere. A couple weeks ago they were playing together quietly out in the front room while we were making dinner. We peered around the corner and Rylie had a shape puzzle and was teaching Bryce his shapes. "Now Bryce, say tri-an-gle." Every time he would do something she asked him to do she would tell him what a good boy he was. It was so cute!

Rylie was gone all last week, and Bryce was so happy to see her when she got home! I think Rylie was even happier to see him! She couldn't get enough of him when she came in the house! They immediately sat down and started playing together. It was so cute!

I had my kids close together for a reason. My brother and I are 20 months apart (exactly - just like Rylie and Bryce), and even though we fought like cats and dogs sometimes, we were still buddies. We always had each other to play with on rainy days or when the street lights came on and we had to go in the house. We always had each other to stay up with all night on Christmas Eve and try to guess what our presents were. We always had each other to trade candy with after going Trick-or-Treating. And even know we don't see each other all that often now, we still have each other for anything, and we will always be there for one another. I want that for my kids too.

Rylie & Bryce

I am so blessed to have my children, and they are blessed to have each other. There will be some days where they may not agree with that, but having a sibling, especially one so close in age, is definitely something good!

OK, now it's your turn. Tell us something good...

*Please note: This linky is only for those participating in Tell Us Something Good. You are welcome to link up a recent post about something good in your life, we just ask that you include the Tell Us Something Good badge somewhere in your post. We hate to have "rules", but we want to be fair to those that are participating. Thank you for understanding.*

Find The Perfect Little-Little Black Dress At LLBD Shop {Review & Giveaway}

The little black dress. We all have at least one, right? Well, OK, up until recently I didn't have one, and the one I have in my closet now is really just a loaner, but hey, I have one.

"One is never too young to celebrate the fashion concept of the little black dress," according to Carol Kahn, Creative Director and founder of llbd shop, the little-little black dress shop. llbd shop is a boutique for little girls, where you will find that perfect "little-little" black dress for any occasion! At llbd shop, you will find beautiful designer dresses for infants, toddlers and little girls in sizes 12 months through 8.

We received the Deux Par Deux Toddler and Girls Printed Necklace Black Dress for review. "Adorned for adorable", this dress has printed images of a necklace and a belt.

LLBD Shop Deux Par Deux Dress

Deux Par Deux brings gaiety, innocence, and freedom, along with a playful sense of esthetics, to its designs. Created by Claude Diwan and Maurice Elmaleh, Deux Par Deux is a leader in Canadian children's fashion.

Rylie was so excited when she saw her new fancy dress! She has really been into dressing up lately, and skirts and dresses are usually her clothing choices every day.

The first thing I liked about this dress is that it was soft, without any tight elastic anywhere. Rylie is very picky about her clothes, and I find that a lot of the "fancy dresses" for little girls are usually not comfortable. The Deux Par Deux dress appeared that it would be very comfortable for her. I ordered the dress in a size 3, which is Rylie's usual size, and it fit her perfectly!

LLBD Shop Deux Par Deux Dress LLBD Shop Deux Par Deux Dress
What do you all think? Future model, maybe?

The quality of this dress is excellent! It is put together very well, and there was not one imperfection that I could find. I believe that the printed necklaces and belt are there to stay, and will not crack or fade when washed. The dress has to lay flat to dry, which is probably the only thing I don't like about it, since I have to remember to pull it out of the washer and not throw it in the dryer with everything else. That will maintain the quality of the dress in the long run, though, especially since this dress will definitely be worn often.

The Deux Par Deux dress normally retails for $62 at llbd shop, but as of the date of this post, it is on sale for $49. The dress is available in sizes 2 through 6.

There are so many other beautiful dresses available at llbd shop! Here are a few of my favorites...

The dresses can be accessorized with jewelry that is also available at llbd shop! To see the full collection of little girls and toddler girls dresses, accessories, jewelry, gifts and books, visit www.llbdshop.com.

The Dangers Of Furniture

How many of you have a coffee table in your house? I have been looking at a lot of websites and magazines lately to get ideas of ways I can spruce my house up some. I see all of these great family room layouts with beautiful coffee tables in them, and I always wonder if I'm the only person on the planet that doesn't have a coffee table.

I would love to have a coffee table in my family room, but with kids, they are too dangerous. Yes, seriously. Case in point: My parents used to have a glass-top coffee table in their living room. You know, one of those that has a huge sheet of glass sitting on top of the four posts? My cousin came to visit one summer when she was 3 or 4, and pulled the glass right off the top of those 4 posts and it shattered everywhere! I think she is still traumatized by that. Or maybe it was the yelling she had to endure from my dad for breaking the table?

Then there are the wooden coffee tables. I really like those lift-top coffee tables that you can raise up if you want to eat on it.

Those are dangerous too, though. That is just something else for my kids to run into and bump their heads on. How many people do you know that have those rubber bumpers on the corners of their coffee table? Pretty!

Not only do we not have a coffee table, we have TV trays for our end tables. No lie. Before we had kids we used to eat on the couch every night, so there was no point in putting the trays away. Instead, we would just put them at the ends of the sectional when we were done. Nice, huh? We actually had to put one of those away a few months ago after Bryce pulled one down on top of himself. Lucky for him, though, the empty space in the middle went right over his head. Even something as simple as TV trays can be dangerous.

We do have two console tables in our house. One, though, does have the big glass top. That table currently sits behind the couch where the kids can't get to it. They can't pull the glass off, nor can they slam something down on top of it and shatter it. The other console table is wooden, and it is also a semi-circle, so the only edges are those against the wall. That should be safe, right? Well, I did find the kids sitting on the bottom section yesterday like it was a fort, so I'm sure it is just a matter of time before someone stands under it and knocks their head on the top part.

I guess it is going to be a few more years before I can look past the dangers of furniture to see the beauty of it. Until then, feel free to set your drinks on a TV tray. Just use a coaster, please.

Nutrisystem Weekly Weigh In: Week 8

Happy Monday everyone! I know my post is a day late. I haven't been feeling so well lately, and last night I hit a wall and just couldn't drag myself off the couch. I visited my doctor this morning and I'm now on antibiotics and a couple different allergy meds, so hopefully I'll be feeling better soon.

I promise you that this post was worth the wait, though. I have some exciting news!!! I hit two milestones this past week... First, I officially hit that 10 pound loss mark! And second, I am FINALLY back down to my pre-pregnancy weight, and then some! I never thought I would ever be this small again.

I have struggled with my weight for years. I feel like once I moved to Orlando in 1998 and started my "real job", I started putting the weight on. Then I met my husband shortly thereafter and got lazy, I guess. Over the years it just slowly crept up on me. I dieted a few times to get it off, and then it would come back. Here's a little video showing the ups and downs over the last several years.

I am finally happy with my weight again, and I refuse to ever let it creep back up! It is such a great feeling to be able to feel good about myself again!

I still have two months to go on the Nutrisystem program, and I am hoping to reach my ultimate goal of 130 pounds by the end of those two months. I have been doing well sticking to the diet plan, so I think I will be able to do it. I still find it easy to stick with the program, since there is such a variety of great foods. Some of my favorites this past week were Cinnamon Bun for breakfast, Roasted Vegetable Pizza for lunch, Chili with Beans for dinner, and Carrot Cake for dessert.

Nutrisystem Cinnamon Bun Nutrisystem Roasted Vegetable Pizza Nutrisystem Chili with Beans Nutrisystem Carrot Cake

Now for my weekly weigh in. As I mentioned earlier, I am back down to my pre-pregnancy weight, and then some. When I got pregnant with Rylie I was right around 137. When I stepped on the scale Sunday morning it read 136.8! Yay! That is a loss of 2.4 pounds over the last week! It looks like my body recovered from that eating binge I went on last weekend.

Nutrisystem Week 8 Ticker

Week One Loss: -3.2
Week Two Loss: -2.0
Week Three Loss: -1.0
Week Four: Vacation
Week Five Loss: -1.4
Week Six Loss: -1.0
Week Seven Loss: -0.4
Week Eight Loss: -2.4

Thank you all for following along with me on my Nutrisystem journey! I hope you will check back next week to see my progress.

We all know that support is a key to losing weight, so it would be great if you would also cheer on some of my Nutrisystem Nation friends: Xenia at Thanks, Mail Carrier, Melissa at The Life of a Sippy Cup Mom, Colleen at Shibley Smiles, and Heather at Family Friendly Frugality.
