We recently received an Amp Portable Recycled Solar Charger for review. This is a perfect gift idea for someone who is tied to their smart phone or other electronic devices, and is always on the go. Hmmm, I think that sounds a little like me these days.

This durable, compact solar charger is made with recycled PET fabric and fits easily in any bag. Don't be fooled by its size, though. This charger has four times the power and twice the battery storage of most solar chargers on the market and will power up most handheld devices, including cell phones, iPads*, PSPs, PDAs, GPSs, iPods, and cameras.

The charger comes with a Universal USB battery and 9 adapters, which are compatible to several phones and other handheld devices. Everything is stored neatly inside the charger.

The outside of the charger is made up of two 2.0 Watt solar panels that generate power in sunlight. They are waterproof, lightweight and built to withstand abuse. The LED indicator in logo illuminates when light hits the panels, so you know when it is charging.

The feature I like the most about the Amp Charger is that it is truly portable. It can easily fit in a backpack, laptop case, and even my diaper bag. We are always on the go on the weekends, and I can't tell you how many times my phone has died because I was checking email, reading blogs or uploading pictures to Facebook. My online activities seem to drain my battery fairly quick, and when we are out and about, I have no way to charge my phone back up. This charger makes it easy for me to always have a full charge when I am on the go.

The Amp Portable Recylced Solar Charger will be fully charged from 7 hours of direct sun. 4-5 hours in the sun will fully charge a typical phone, and 1 hour will provide about 3 hours of talk time. When you are not in the sun, you can still charge the battery using the USB Power Cable, optional AC travel charger or DC car charger.

This charger is easy to use. You just find the adapter that fits your phone or handheld device, and connect it to the battery and your device.

If you look at the full versions of the pictures above, you will see that at 8:55, the phone had 43% battery, and a little while later at 9:13, it was up to 51%.

I am not usually out in the sun for long periods of time, so I did not try out the solar charge on the battery pack. This would be good for someone who possibly works outdoors, or even for someone who is going camping and will be away from AC electricity sources for several days. For me, I'm excited for the fact that I have a portable battery charger for our trips to theme parks or for when we are jumping from birthday party to birthday party on the weekends.
