No Throw {Review & Giveaway}

Bryce likes to throw things. That is his new fun game these days. Sometimes it is amusing, but other times it is not. Like when we are out at a restaurant and he tosses his sippy cup halfway across the room. I'm not real amused then, even though he thinks it is hilarious. After the first and second throw, I will wipe his cup off with a sanitizing hand wipe and give it back to him. After the third or fourth time, though, I usually just put it away.

I was so excited when I discovered the No Throw! Now Bryce can toss his cup whenever he wants, because it isn't going to go very far!

The No Throw is a tether that straps around bottles and sippy cups. It can be slipped around high chairs, car seats, strollers, you name it. When your baby or toddler throws their cup, it doesn't go very far, and it certainly won't hit the floor. It is such an awesome product!

I could post a bunch of pictures of Bryce with the No throw, but pictures wouldn't explain this product nearly as well as a video. We first tested it when we went to our favorite breakfast-for-dinner restaurant after school one Friday. Let me show you why we like the No Throw so much...

I am so glad I don't have to deal with constantly cleaning his cup when he throws it now! Unfortunately the strap is not long enough to hook it to his high chair at home, but it works great when we are out and I don't have quick access to a sink and dish soap to wash his cup off. We never leave the house without a No Throw anymore! I also hook it to Bryce's car seat, and his stroller.

The No Throw was developed by twin sisters, Karla and Karen, in 2001. They both were doing a lot of traveling with small children who liked to throw their cups all over the planes and cars. They knew there had to be a solution, and the No Throw was created! The No Throw has been featured in Women's World Magazine, Parenting Magazine and was Published as a 2007 "Top Ten Most Innovative" winner in the StartupNation Home-Based 100!

The No Throw comes in several different colors and patterns. A few of my favorites are Blue With Dinosaurs, Green With Numbers, and Brown With Flowers (for a little girl, of course).

You can purchase the No Throw from the No Throw Online Store for $5 each. You can also order by phone, or find them at most Walgreens locations. Trust me, you will want more than one so that you will always have one with you!

Always The Worst Case Scenario

I am normally a very logical, rational person. I said normally. I have issues when it comes to anything health related, though. You could call me a hypochondriac, I suppose. I don’t know. It isn’t that I think I’m always sick. Or that the kids are always sick. I’m not one to run to the doctor all the time, nor do I take the kids to the pediatrician every time they get a fever. It is just when something IS wrong, I blow it out of proportion and my mind can go off to some very dark places. It is always the worst case scenario with me.

Say I have a headache. It isn’t just because I’m tired and stressed. I have a brain tumor.

And if my throat hurts? No, I don’t have a virus. I have cancer.

I’m not making light of these very serious conditions, I promise. I’m just trying to tell you how my mind operates.

This morning when I was getting Bryce dressed I noticed two little welts on his legs. They looked like some kind of bug bites. When we left for school I noticed another one. So now I’m sick with worry that he is going to end up with some deadly mosquito-borne illness such as Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

I’m a mess, I know. I just don’t know how to turn this off. Nothing awful has ever happened to me or anyone in my family, so I don’t even know why I’m like this. It sucks. Thank goodness I have a rational husband to talk me down! He said that we probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than Bryce getting EEE, and he is probably right.

It’s OK, you can laugh at me. I’m kind of laughing at myself right now. Do any of you do this? Or am I alone with my nutty thoughts here?

Sunday Funnies And Other News

It has been a couple of weeks since I have posted Sunday Funnies. There just hasn't been anything super funny going on around here. Wait a minute. What am I talking about? Everything is funny these days. Because if I don't laugh, I'm going to cry. It's just a little nuts around here. There is a lot going on, and not enough time to do it all.

Anyway, wah wah wah, I know. I do have a couple little funnies for you today.

Rylie was having coughing fits during her sleep last week. And after she barfed during one of them, I had to figure out something to help her. So the next night I told her that after her bath and everything she was going to get some honey before she went to bed. A few times during and after her bath she kept telling me she wanted cantaloupe. I didn't quite understand why. She knows that she doesn't usually get anything else to eat after dinner. But she kept asking for it and I kept telling her we didn't have any. And after I would tell her that she would say "well what are you going to give me?" Um, nothing. So after about the third or fourth time of this, the little light bulb went off in my head. I asked her if she was talking about the honey she was going to get and she said yes. Apparently she got a little confused. Usually she has honeydew melon and cantaloupe together. She had never had honey before, so I guess she was thinking she was going to get some kind of fruit. Cantaloupe/honeydew, what's the difference? She figured out what honey was a short time later. And by the way, it did help!

Another funny thing Rylie said was "Santa Claus my hands" when I pulled out the hand sanitizer and told her to sanitize her hands. I love the little things she messes up!

And in other news...

Bryce is a biter. Yep. My kid has a label. I think I had to sign three incident reports last week when I picked him up from school for his new habit. On Friday the center director had to talk to me about it, and she gave me some stupid paper about why kids bite. Thanks, but I know why he is biting. He's teething, and he can't communicate. So when he gets frustrated the little chompers get going. I get that she had to follow some kind of protocol, but at this age there isn't too much you can do. Calmly tell him no and redirect him to something else...preferably something he is allowed to chew on.

Up until this weekend, his friends at school were the only targets of the little chomper. Sadly, today, his sister experienced the wrath. Bryce was pushing around one of the ride-on toys and got stuck against the wall. He got frustrated that he couldn't move it. So Rylie went over to help him and I guess he thought she was going to take it from him (hmmmm, I wonder why he would think that???) and he just chomped down on her arm. I felt so bad for her. She still actually has four little marks where his teeth landed. I was surprised though, that she didn't do anything back to him. She just started crying and ran over to Brian. I'm sure it hurt like hell.

Oh, and he bit himself too. Hard enough to leave marks. Ouch!

I wonder now if people are going to change their RSVPs to his party?

And now I have some news that is a lot more fun! I am officially a soccer mom! Rylie is all signed up to play soccer. I found a league that takes kids as young as 2. They play with 4 players on a team and no goalie. They don't keep score either. They haven't published the rosters yet, but as far as I know she is going to be playing with Rihanna, Cole and Ethan, who are three of her friends from school. Unfortunately the "meet the team and coach" and first practice are the same day as Bryce's party, so I won't be able to go. At least the first game isn't that day because I would hate to miss that. This is going to be so much fun! I can't wait to see her play! Now, if I could only find soccer shorts and cleats in her size.

I just have to tell you all what a great husband I have. Out of the four of us in our little group at the meeting, we were the only ones that had two parents there. So when the guy announced that there was a fun bus out front and all the kids could go in while he was conducting the meeting, guess who got elected to take all four of them? Yep, that would be Brian. I gotta say I was amused at watching him walk out with the line of four toddlers (the rest are three) holding hands. It was so cute. But what was even funnier was that he ended up having to take them all to the bathroom. Because you know how it goes...when one has to go, they all have to go. Good times!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and has a fabulous week this week!

Saturday Playdate - Circle of Love...and all the craziness around it...

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone's weekend has started off well. Thanks for stopping by for Saturday Playdate! Today's playdate is with Jennifer from Circle of Love...and all the craziness around it... Her blog makes me smile on a regular basis. She has the most adorable little boys you have ever seen! (Well, after Bryce, of course.) I still can't decide which one of them I want to arrange Rylie's marriage with. And if I'm not smiling at pictures of those sweet little faces, I'm cracking up at the "comedy show" her life can sometimes be. Hey, when you have two little ones, sometimes you just have to laugh!

So after you read Jennifer's post over here, go check out her blog. Give her some comment love while you're there. And if you're not following her already, you definitely should be. Because she is awesome. And super sweet. And has adorable kids.

Circle of Love...and all the craziness around it...

Happy Saturday Blogland! My name is Jennifer and I have been invited over here to LeeAnn's place today for a playdate. I have to be honest, I am kind of over the whole playdate thing lately. Thank God this is a virtual one, otherwise I would be making up some excuse at the last minute to cancel. LeeAnn scheduled me for this playdate awhile ago, and since then, I have been wondering what to write about. But the reality of it is, I am writing what I am thinking about right now. Before I do, I will give you a quick overview of my life. I am married to a great man but he is the total opposite from me. We have 2 boys, ages 4 and 17 months. I am go-with-the-flow and very laid back. The hubby is OCD and very neurotic.

So, we just came back from a week long vacation in Lake George, NY. If you want to know more about how it went, you will have to take a peek over at my blog. It is kind of funny. If you get to know my life, you will see that it is kind of a comedy show. Anyway, friends of ours came along this trip. We were all sitting out on our deck one night and we started talking about kids and health and sleeping. My husband made the comment that he checks on our kids in the morning before he leaves for work to make sure they are breathing. Then my girlfriend says that she leaves the light on at night in her daughters room so she can peek in on her and be able to see if she is breathing. I just stopped to think for a minute. I have never checked my kids to see if they were 'breathing.' Of course they are breathing, why would I check on them? Why would they not be breathing? I don't think I have ever checked on them. Okay, maybe I did with my older son when he was like a week old. And that was because I was a new mom. By the time my second kid rolled around, at a week old, I was giving him his own bottle to hold!

I have been thinking about the conversation and just how different we all are as parents. Even as parents of the same kids. I am just flawed sometimes on how my husband and I react so differently to things our kids do. I guess you need a balance, just like anything in life. If we were the same, it probably would not work. Not saying it works great now...LOL! I guess the main thing is that you both have the same end goals. To raise happy, healthy, respectful kids. Hopefully the end result pays off and we are able to look back and laugh at all of the things that happened along the way. I try to laugh now, but the hubby does not find most things amusing....like my little Anthony covering himself with bleach while we were on vacation! As you gasp, he was fine......it did not get in his face. A little bleach on his clothes helped me with not having to do a big load of laundry...LOL!

I am going to stop writing now because I hate when posts get too long. We all don't have hours to sit around on the computer reading the nonsense of other people's lives...even though we all do it more than we will admit. So, have a great weekend and maybe I will see you over at my place :)

Weekend Win It - August 28-29 {Linky}

Welcome to Weekend Win It! This is a great way to spread the word about your giveaways, or find some great ones to enter! And remember...you don't need to be a blogger to enter these giveaways! All you need to do is know how to leave a comment. It's that easy!

First I have to tell you about what I won last week. I won a Strider PREBike from My Silly Monkeys! Jess always has some great giveaways going on and I was so excited to see her email in my inbox last weekend. This is a training bike that helps toddlers learn balance and coordination before they learn to pedal. I can't wait for Rylie to test it out! When we sat down to pick out the color she wanted she immediately chose pink, but we compromised on red so that she can share it with Bryce when he is older. These bikes retail for around $100, which makes winning this giveaway even more exciting! So get out there and enter the giveaways you see in my post and in the linky at the end, because you never know when you'll see "YOU WON!" in your inbox!

I have a great giveaway going on right now for a tag*a*long. If you're curious as to what these happy looking things are, head over and check out my tag*a*long review and giveaway. Rylie loves it and I bet your toddler will too!

Colleen at Shibley Smiles has a giveaway going for a $50 Vintage Pearl Gift Certificate! I would really like to win this one so I can get a bracelet to match my dainty drops necklace. I love the unique, handcrafted jewelry you can find at The Vintage Pearl!

I had some personalized books when I was little, and in fact, my mom just recently found them and brought them to me for my kids to have. Unfortunately they are all about me. I would really like to get some that are personalized for my kids. I was over at one of my favorite blogs, Thanks Mail Carrier, and saw this great giveaway for My FairyTale Books. These books are so cute! My FairyTale Books has a variety of books that you can have personalized with your child's name, and they also create personalized music CDs too! I think I know what website I will be doing some Christmas shopping on this year.

Here is a great giveaway for one of the Fisher Price Power Wheels you see in the picture above! Jennifer at J. Leigh Designz has teamed up with CSN Stores to bring you this great Power Wheels Giveaway!

Little Tikes has great products! So when I see a giveaway for one of their toys, I always enter. I found a Spray and Rescue Fire Truck giveaway over at Mama's Getting Kinda Crunchy. Unfortunately I found it just before it ends. So HURRY on over to enter this one because it ends at midnight on Saturday, August 28th!

Pearista Pen To Paper Challenge

Pear Tree Greetings Pearista

By now you all have probably noticed that pretty badge in my left sidebar. Are you wondering what that is all about? I am proud to tell you that I am a Pearista! Pearista is a group of bloggers sponsored by Pear Tree Greetings that value the power of connecting through stationery. Pear Tree Greetings is an online stationery company that loves to help people connect, whether it's via a personalized note card, Christmas Card or birth announcement. You should really go check out all of the wonderful products that Pear Tree Greetings has to offer!

The quality of the products you can find at Pear Tree Greetings is excellent! I received the Peony Perfection in Purple -- Personalized Note Card to welcome me to the group of Pearistas. They are so pretty! The cards are printed on high quality paper and you can tell how great the quality is as soon as you open up the package.

Since I am new to this program, I am still figuring it all out. Each month I will post about something different. For August, I accepted the Pen to Paper Challenge. This challenge is all about hand written notes. With all of the electronic means of communicating these days, most of us don't ever actually write with a pen anymore. Am I right? I feel that a handwritten note to someone is so much more personal than an email or a quick text. This month I will be writing four handwritten letters and blogging about them each week. (I'm a little behind the game, so this post is actually for the first two weeks.)

For this challenge I received four of the Leaves -- Personalized Note Cards to write my notes on. I am usually not a fan of orange, but this is such a pretty color and I really like it!

I also received four of the Small Pattern -- Grey Personalized Note Cards to send along with my notes so that my recipients can take this challenge themselves.

My first hand written note went to my long-time best friend Rebecca. We have been friends since we were both 14 years old. Wow! I just realized it has been over 20 years! Rebecca is one of those friends that you know you can always count on for anything. I can't tell you how many times she has helped me move, hugged me while I cried after a breakup, or given me honest and straightforward advice that only a best friend could give. Unfortunately we live over 100 miles apart now and lately it has been difficult for us to spend any time together. I wanted to write to her to let her know I am thinking about her, and that even though we don't see each other often, she is always in my thoughts and I miss her terribly.

My second hand written note went to my friend Colleen. She has really done a lot for me lately and I wanted to thank her. She started blogging a few months ago and we have been having so much fun with it. She shares her "blogging secrets" with me and helps me with design (because she is awesome with it). Together we are figuring out all of this blogging stuff while we help feed each other's blogging addictions. She also recently designed all kinds of stuff for Bryce's birthday party and I am so grateful to her for that!

I really enjoyed writing these letters. I hope I bring smiles to my friends' faces when they open their mailboxes and see the envelope from me. I haven't yet decided who the other two recipients of hand written letters will be, so check back later for those posts.

Another part of being a Pearista is that I get to share some great deals with you! Here is the deal for August:
Throughout the month of August, enjoy 15% off anything and everything BABY! Birth Announcements, Baby Shower Invitations, Baptism Invitations and more! Use code PEARAUG10. Shop Pear Tree Greetings' Baby Collection.

Five Question Friday - August 27th

Yay! Another weekend is here and I get to start it early this week! In fact, I haven't worked a Friday in the last three weeks, and I won't be working one again until mid-September. Sweet!

I hope everyone is having a great week. Bryce had a rough week this week and after one very sleepless night we discovered that he has an ear infection. This is the second one since his tubes?!?! I can only imagine how bad it would be without the tubes. He has ear drops now and already seems to be doing much better. Rylie is a little sicky too with some congestion, which led to her having a coughing fit and barfing all over my bed the other night. Since then we have been giving her a spoonful of honey before bed and it has helped keep that cough at bay. So yeah, we haven't had the best evenings around here this week. Hopefully these kids can sleep these sickies away this weekend and get rid of all of this crap soon!

Does anyone have any fun plans for the weekend? We actually do not have ANY plans this weekend. How did that happen? But since Bryce's big birthday bash is only two weeks away, we certainly have plenty to do!

It's time for 5QF! Where you get to learn a little about me, and I get to learn some new stuff about my friends that play too. Want to join in on the fun? Head over to My Little Life and link up!

1. How many pets do you have?

Four.

We have two golden retrievers named Cosmo and Chloe that are actually brother and sister. They have the same parents, but were born in different litters a year apart. Cosmo is 9 (and is gray as a grandpa) and Chloe is 8. Cosmo loves to play Frisbee and Chloe loves to lounge around in the sun. They are the best dogs ever and ridiculously tolerant of the kids.

We also have two cats named Morgan and Shadow. I rescued Morgan from the shelter when he was like 8 weeks old way back in 1997. Shadow, who is about the same age as Morgan, joined our house a few years ago after my friend Dawn rescued him from an owner that didn't care too much for his well being. (He was declawed and forced to live outside. How is he supposed to survive out there with no claws? Declawed cats belong inside!) Shadow loves the kids and pretty much allows Rylie to love torment him on a regular basis. Morgan, on the other hand, runs away the second one of the kids enters the same room he is in.

2. If you could switch places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be?

Anyone that is on vacation in a tropical paradise. Well, not just anyone, it would have to be someone with a lot of money. Enough that I could sip drinks and get massages all day long, and come home with shiny souvenirs. Oh, and I would sleep. I would definitely sleep.

3. What is your favorite money saving tip?

Well from the state of my bank account, it appears that I don't have many of those. But I did learn a good one pretty fast. Never, ever, ever buy anything full price at Gymboree. Because it will be on sale a week later and you will be kicking yourself for getting screwed.

4. What do you want your kids to be when they grow up?

I guess I could give the popular answer of a doctor, lawyer, actor, professional sports player, or any other profession that makes a ton of money so I could actually retire and have someone else take care of me.

But I won't.

I want them to be whatever THEY want to be. Well, unless I have to support them when they are 30. Then I might try to point them in a different direction.

5. What is your favorite quote?

"And this too shall pass."

I have no idea who said it, or where it came from, but that has been my mantra lately.

Don't forget to stop back by after 10PM EST tonight for my Weekend Win It giveaway linky. On Saturday we have a great guest blogger coming over for a Saturday Playdate. And come back on Sunday for Relax & Surf Sunday, where you can link up your blog and hop around under your own terms!

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Cutest Invitations EVER

I cannot believe Bryce is going to be ONE in just over two weeks! This past year has flown by! Over the next few weeks I am sure I will be talking a lot about his first birthday bash, so be prepared. :-)

I just HAVE to show you the absolutely adorable invitations made by my friend Colleen over at Shibley Smiles. I have been so excited about them ever since she sent them to me!

Aren't they cute? (Of course the real information was changed to avoid party crashers!)

She made some super cute address labels to go with the invites.

She also made some labels for the favor bags. Once I know who is coming, she will print all the kids' names on them.

I am so lucky to have such a talented friend! I really think she did an awesome job! I keep telling her she needs to go into business for her designs. She also does blog design too. Maybe you guys can help me convince her? Do me a favor and hop on over to Shibley Smiles and tell her that you agree with me on the whole design business thing. Just write a comment on any post. Well, other than a giveaway post, of course. And speaking of giveaways...if you like her mad design skills, you can enter her giveaway for a free button design. But hurry, because it closes on August 27th.

Thank you so much Colleen! I really appreciate it!

Wordless Wednesday: I Learned This From My Dogs {Linky}

I want to see your Wordless Wednesday posts! Link up below! And for more Wordless Wednesday fun, check out The Florida Hogans, Angelica's Awesome Adventures and Shibley Smiles. Happy WW!

A Fun New Game

Bryce’s favorite thing to do these days is walk! Unfortunately he can’t walk unassisted yet, so he will crawl over to something, pull himself up and cruise as far as he can with whatever he is holding on to. He walks down the wall, walks around “the cage” and pushes the ride-on toys around. He recently started pushing the Power Wheels School Bus around. The kid is quite strong!

The other day Bryce was pushing the school bus and Rylie decided to get in it. He was pushing it with her in it and then she hit the button to make it go. To our surprise he stayed right up with it! They were both cracking up the whole time. After his first face-plant I thought we should put an end to their little game, but he kept grabbing on and wanted more.

I managed to get some video of their fun new game. Of course when I had the camera on he kept falling, but maybe that makes it even funnier?

I really hope he is walking by himself by his birthday so he can enjoy his party a little more. He is really getting close! He has taken three steps, but that is it so far.

tag*a*long {Review & Giveaway}

When I was pregnant with Bryce we bought a double stroller, and I'm starting to wonder why we bothered. Rylie (aka "Miss Independent") doesn't like to ride in the stroller all that often. She likes to walk with us. The only problem is that someone is usually having to chase her around. A trip to the store for just a couple of things can quickly turn into a game of cat and mouse.

I came across the tag*a*long one day and my first thought was "hmmmm, why didn't I think of that?" What a great idea! Genius, even. The tag*a*long is "a simple, fun way for kids to walk comfortably next to a stroller." It is a little plastic handle that attaches to your stroller (or a shopping cart, or even a belt loop on your pants, perhaps) that gives your child the feeling of independence, while giving you a little peace of mind.

Are you thinking that there is no way your child is going to fall for that? I thought the same thing at first, but let me tell you that it works! When we received our tag*a*long in the mail I showed it to Rylie and told her that it was HERS. I explained to her that we would attach it to Bryce's stroller (the single, more lightweight stroller) and that she could hold on to it and walk next to us. She was really excited to try it out! We ventured out to do a little birthday shopping, and gave it a try.

Here is Rylie walking with her tag*a*long through the parking lot.

And look...they are up to the front doors of the store and she is still hanging on!

We told her that as long as she held on to her tag*a*long she could continue to walk with us. And she did! That shopping trip was a success! We will definitely be using our tag*a*long for all of our outings from now on! In fact, it hasn't come off the stroller since we put it on.

The tag*a*long was created by a mom and dad who had an idea to make strolling with their walking little man a little easier. It is manufactured in the USA and is BPA and lead free. It was one of the Editors Best of 2009 on Cool Mom Picks and it has been featured in Parents Magazine.

You can purchase the tag*a*long directly from the tag*a*long website for $9.99, or you can find it at many different retailers. It comes in 4 great colors - lemon, tangerine, blueberry and raspberry.

~*~The awesome mom and dad duo that created these are giving one of my readers a tag*a*long in your choice of color!~*~
