Twos
I have these little birthday tickers in my signature on a message board I visit occasionally. Today I happened to notice that Rylie is 2 years, 2 months, 2 weeks and 2 days old. I just thought it was neat, that is all.
Hmmm, maybe that is why last night we got a dose of the terrible twos in full force?

Bungee Jumping
After visiting Easter Bunny Sunday, Rylie spotted the bungee jump over near the food court in the mall. She kept saying she wanted to go up and down, so we let her. She had so much fun! At first she was a little apprehensive, but it didn't take long before she was flying high and loving it!
Of course right after I stopped the video in order to take some still pictures, she really started squealing!

I'm sure she'll have to do that now every time we go back to the mall. :-)
Here is a picture of Bryce watching all of the fun.

We had such a great day!

Bryce Said "Da Da"!
Bryce said his first "word" on Saturday! We were out running some errands and he just said it while we were driving. "Da Da!" It was so cute. He was supposed to say "Ma Ma" first, since I have secretly been trying to teach him that, but I guess I'll have to get over that, huh? Ever since Saturday night that is all we hear now. Da Da Da Da Da Da Da Da...
Disney World
Rylie also got to go to Disney World last week! Brian and I took Rylie, Allison and Alaina. We all had such a great time! I hadn't been to Disney in probably 15 years.
We went last Thursday and it was one of the first warm days we have had. It was a beautiful day! The park wasn't that crowded so we were able to ride a lot of the rides. We went on Pirates of the Caribbean, Winnie the Pooh, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Cinderella's Carousel, Dumbo, It's A Small World, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, Mad Tea Party and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. We went on that Transit Authority a few times...Rylie loved going through Space Mountain in the dark! We also watched Country Bear Jamboree. We took turns riding Space Mountain while Rylie took a little nap in her stroller.
Rylie got to meet Mickey and Minnie, which was probably the best part of her day. Unfortunately my camera ended up getting switched to manual focus at that time, so all of the pictures are pretty blurry. We had some pictures taken by a photographer at Disney, and as soon as I can bring myself to pay $14.95 to download ONE picture, I will post it.
We will definitely be going back soon!
Here we are on our way in.

Sea World
Rylie went to Sea World last week with Mama, Uncle Danny, Allison and Alaina. She had a great time! Here are a few pictures my mom took.
Busy Week!
Wow! The last week has just flown by! My cousins, Allison and Alaina, came to visit for Spring Break. Rylie had so much fun with them and she is still asking where they are. So much went on over the past week...
Rylie and the girls got to go to Sea World and Disney World. Bryce said his first word. The kids saw the Easter Bunny. And Rylie got to bungee jump today.
After the kids go to bed tonight I'll post (well, several posts) about our fun-filled week in more detail. But right now I have a ton of chores to do and two cute kids to play with. Stay tuned...

Bryce’s 6 Month Well Visit
And I emphasize the word WELL. Because finally, he seems to be feeling better! That poor little boy has had a rough few weeks.
His 6 month checkup went well. He is 26.5 inches (50th percentile) and 16 pounds 11 ounces (25th percentile). I am amazed that he is only in the 25th percentile for weight. He seems so big to me. He did lose 11 ounces last week when he was sick, so he probably would be up in the 50th percentile if it weren’t for that. It is fine, though. I’m sure he’ll gain it all back quickly now since his appetite has come back.
He is doing all of the things he should be doing at 6 months old…sitting like a “tripod”, putting weight on his legs when being held upright, rolling both ways (even though he usually doesn’t because he’s lazy), babbling and moving objects from one hand to the other. The doctor also commented on his intelligence. It was very obvious that he understands, since he started screaming as soon as she (or the nurse) got near him. It looks like I have another smart one on my hands. When Rylie’s fear of the doctor started, she said “all the smart ones hate us”. I guess those Rocephin shots did the trick on Bryce too and pretty soon he’ll be saying “bye bye” as soon as we walk in the door to the pediatrician’s office.
He has had a blocked tear duct since shortly after he was born. I thought it went away, but I guess I was wrong since his eye has been goopy again lately. She said she will give it until his next visit at 9 months and if it is still blocked she will send him to the opthamologist.
He got two shots and the oral rotavirus. A little late for that, huh? He cried for about 20 seconds after his shots and then was smiling again. He still had a bruise on his right leg from the Rocephin shots, and it seems to be really sore now. He was a little cranky yesterday and had his Daddy up way too early this morning, but he seems to be doing OK.
He has been out of school for two weeks and I think he had a little stranger anxiety this morning because he cried when we left. I’m sure he’ll get used to everyone again. They love him there and someone is always cuddling with him.

Here is the 6 month onesie picture. The onesie he is wearing is a 12 month onesie. Each month we take a picture of him in it to see how much he has grown. We did the same thing with Rylie and all of those pictures are on the Picasa site. I wonder if Bryce will still be able to wear it at 12 months??? It was actually a week or so late this month because of all of the sickness.

And here is a close up of his cute little face...

I cannot tell you all how happy I am that Bryce is feeling better! I have my happy little “B-Nugget” back! Yay!
Happy Birthday Ethan!
Rylie went to Ethan’s 3rd birthday party this past weekend. She had a great time! She worked up an appetite playing with her friends in the bounce house and then chowed down on popcorn chicken, mini corn dogs and grapes. Unfortunately it started raining halfway through the party so it got moved inside. It didn’t seem to bother the kids, though. They had a great time playing with all of Ethan’s toys!
Thank you Ethan (and your Mommy and Daddy) for inviting Rylie to celebrate your special day with you! We hope you had a wonderful birthday!

I Have The Best Husband
I am really sick of writing about sickies, and I’m sure you all are sick of reading about it, so I’m changing the subject today. Today I want to talk about my wonderful husband.
He just sent me an email about why he was late for work today. I would copy it in here, but I will save you all the yucky details. Basically, he bleached both of the bathrooms that have been used by the sick people, did a load of pukey and poopie laundry, and hosed out the garbage can after he realized that there had been some leakage. He rocks! I probably would have just thrown my hands up and tried to just put it all out of my mind.
But it is not just today. I am the luckiest woman in the world, and I feel like that every day. Because, my friends, I could not ask for a better husband.
He has been a 50/50 parent since the day Rylie was born. In fact, some days he probably does more of the parenting than I do. He gets the kids mostly ready for school in the morning so that I don’t have to get up any earlier than I already do. He has dinner ready or in process (at least for Rylie) by the time I get home with the kids every day. He bathes and does the nightly routine for one child every night, while I do the other. The weekends are usually a tag-team effort so that we can both get a chore or two done. He has even been doing most of the night time paci duty this past week since Bryce hasn't been sleeping so well.
There are many more reasons on top of his awesome parenting. The big one being – he puts up with me! I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not easy to live with. I know, you all are shocked. ::insert hysterical laughter here:: He doesn’t yell at me *too much* for my shopping habits. He doesn’t sit around all weekend and watch sports. He will pretty much go with the flow and run around with me on the weekends. And at the end of each day, he rubs my feet. It doesn’t get any better than this.
I could keep listing reasons, but I think you get my point.
I love you babe, and I appreciate everything you do!

Win This!
4moms has come out with another cool product. (Well, at least it sounds cool.) It is called the mamaRoo.
Right now they are giving away one mamaRoo a day until April 30th. Just click here to enter. (You do have to become a member of their site in order to enter.)
I became aware of 4moms when we bought their Cleanwater Infant Tub. I love this tub and will give you a review one of these days. But for now, I just wanted to share this giveaway with all of my mommy (and mommy to be) friends. Good luck!

Lysol Bomb
Is there such a thing? You know, like when you get your house tented for termites. I feel like that is what we need right now.
Just when we thought Bryce was getting better I was showered in vomit yet again. Right after his bath Tuesday night he let loose on me. My Mom and Dad were just getting ready to pack up and go home since we thought he would be going back to school on Wednesday. Um, nope. I called the nurse at his pediatrician’s office and she said that it is rare, but these bugs can sometimes hang around for a week or even longer. I was really starting to worry that there was something else going on with him. Until…
I woke up Wednesday morning to my Mom throwing up. I couldn’t believe it! She used to be a teacher and was immune to all of this stuff, but I guess she has been out of the game too long. She had a really bad day yesterday and at one point Brian thought she might need to go to the hospital. And let me tell you...it is almost just as heart wrenching to see a parent sick, as it is your child.
They both seem to be feeling better this morning, so hopefully they will both be over this. I swear my house smells like a garbage can. My mom is in the process of fumigating with Lysol and hopefully it won’t rain all day so we can open some windows and let some fresh air in.
I did some reading yesterday and pretty much came to the conclusion that Bryce and Mama have rotavirus. That is a NASTY bug. Not only does it cause severe gastrointestinal problems that can quickly lead to dehydration, especially in a baby, but it can survive on surfaces for days. It is very contagious.
Everyone has to get better. We have a big week planned next week with my cousins coming down to visit and everyone needs to be well. Not to mention the fact that I am exhausted, and that padded cell is looking even more welcoming.
Edit - Bryce threw up again today. I talked to the pediatrician (again) and they aren't concerned. Man I wish I could get on board with that. He isn't showing any signs of dehydration, which is good, but I'm still worried. Oh, and now Papa appears to have it too. Lovely.

ENT Appointment
We were able to get Bryce in to see the ENT this morning. There just happened to be a cancellation right before I called yesterday so I got the appointment! Usually it takes like a month to get an appointment with this guy. Unfortunately I already had a dentist appointment scheduled for myself, so Brian had to take him. And that means that I probably didn't get all of the details, and probably won't ever. But that means a shorter post today, right?
He had a hearing test and I guess he only cooperated for a little bit of it. It was enough for the doctor to see that his hearing was OK, though. He only had fluid in one ear, so apparently those shots did do some good. The doctor wants to hold off on the tubes for now and see him back in 6 weeks.
He also seems to be feeling much better. He hasn't vomited in over 48 hours, so it looks like that stomach bug is going bye-bye.
Oh, and let me just tell you about the disgusting evening we had last night. I got hit with 3 different bodily fluids in a 5 minute time frame. Yes, I said THREE! First Bryce spit up just before I was going to get him undressed for his bath. It wasn't a full-on "blaaaaaaaaah" (as Rylie says it), but enough to make me have to clean it up. When I got that cleaned up, I took off his diaper and he peed all over his dresser. Man, that kid can soak a whole room! It is like one of those super soaker squirt guns, I swear! I finally got that all cleaned up, and as I was walking him out to the kitchen for his bath he pooped all over us. He ended up getting two baths last night because he decided he needed to poop some more after the first one. Ahhhh, the joys of motherhood!

I Spoke Too Soon
I got a nice vomit bath this morning. Well, it wasn't really nice. It was actually kind of disgusting. So Bryce had Pedialyte again today. He just had a diluted bottle of formula and is sleeping peacefully. I REALLY hope this is the end of this!
Happy "Half-Birthday" Bryce!
This is a couple days late, but I haven't been able to get online much in the last few days.
Bryce is 6 months old! I honestly can't believe how fast the last 6 months have gone. He has really started to be a lot of fun. He is always smiling and laughing...even through all of the sickies that he has had.
Last week he started sitting up by himself! He is pretty good at it too. Unfortunately our camera was upstairs, but I did manage to get a cell phone picture...

He can also roll both ways, but he is just generally too lazy to do it.
He weighs just over 17 pounds and eats like a champ! He has rice cereal or oatmeal with a little fruit for breakfast, a stage 2 jar of either fruits or veggies for lunch, and usually 1/2 to a full jar of stage 2 for dinner. This is in addition to his five 6-7 ounce bottles each day. Rylie was never a big eater, so it just amazes me how much he eats. I have been told that boys are piggies.
He is still a great sleeper! We had to go back to the swaddle again when he got sick a couple weeks ago, so we're trying to get him out of that again. Most nights he sleeps from about 8 until 6. We are so lucky!
He loves to be in his exersaucer or jumperoo! He is pretty much done with the swing and bouncer, or anything that requires him to be horizontal. He loves to be upright and looking at everything. He gets pretty nutty jumping around in those toys. It is quite funny.
Happy "Half-Birthday" to my little man!!!

I Am Going To Need A Padded Cell Soon
As if the ear infections and the Rocephin shots weren't enough, Bryce has spent the last two days throwing up...mostly on me. We woke up to a crib-full of puke both Friday and Saturday morning. Then we had to do the Pedialyte regimen for two days.
For those that don't know what the Pedialyte regimen is, it isn't fun. Bryce got one teaspoon of Pedialyte through a dropper every 10 minutes for about 4 hours. After 4 hours he got an ounce at a time, and then two ounces, until we got up to 4 ounces at a time. Once 8 hours had passed with no vomiting, he got to have formula again. It sounds easy enough, right? Well not so much when your baby is starving and they only get a dropper full of Pedialyte every 10 minutes. We had to do that both Friday and Saturday since it didn't work Friday.
I took him back to the pediatrician Friday morning and she said it was a stomach bug, so they went ahead and did his second Rocephin shot. I took him back for the third shot yesterday. His ears are still full of fluid, so we will be going to see the ENT now. I guess he'll be getting tubes sooner than later. I hate the thought of putting him under anesthesia, but I really don't want to deal with ear infections for the next year like we did with Rylie.
He has been holding down formula and bananas now for almost 24 hours, so hopefully that bug is gone. We're giving him Florastor (awesome stuff, BTW) just to get his belly all back to normal.
The sickies nonsense MUST end soon. I can't take much more! Plus, I'd much rather be blogging about how cute my kids are and the silly things they do, than how sick they are.

Rocephin Shots Suck
But apparently not near as much as getting wax dug out and then flushed out of your ears. My poor Bryce. In his 6 months of life I have never heard him cry like he did today.
I had to take him to the doctor to get his ears checked out. I had to sneak him out of daycare without Rylie seeing us, and then had to run through a thunderstorm with him in his infant carrier to get inside the office. That was the start of all of the "fun".
When the doctor looked in his ears they were full of wax and she couldn't see anything. (Rylie always had that problem too, and her doctor always said "yeah, the waxy kids hate us".) She tried to dig the wax out and all that did was make him mad. He cried pretty bad. The crying really started, though, when the digging didn't work and his ears had to be flushed out. It was horrible. After the flush, there was one piece of wax left, and the nurse tried to get it until it started bleeding. It was all just so traumatic...for Bryce and for me.
When the doctor could finally see in his ears she said they were both still full of thick, yellow fluid. She said they may or may not really be "infected", but this had gone on long enough. The three options were 1. leave it alone - but we would probably be back in two days with a fever, 2. try another round of Augmentin or 3. Rocephin shots. After some discussion we decided the Rocephin shots were the way to go.
They had to split the shot into two - one in each leg. Two nurses came in and did it at the same time. More crying ensued. Then we had to sit and wait 15 minutes to make sure he didn't have a reaction.
By that time we had been at the office for like 2 hours. Since I had picked him up from daycare, I didn't have anything with me, and didn't really think I would need a bottle. Well I did. Luckily they had a jug of his formula and some ready to feed bottles with regular formula, so they poured that formula out and poured his formula in it. I did bring diapers with us, but since it was raining so hard I left them (along with my purse and everything else) in the car. Score another "mother of the year" award for me!
So now we go back tomorrow afternoon and Saturday morning for two more rounds of shots. These shots should clear his ears up...at least for now. I have a feeling he'll be seeing the ENT soon.

Playdate At The Park
This past weekend we met our friends Kristen and Cole at the park. We actually went twice. We went Saturday evening, but it was really cold so we didn't stay long. When we went back Sunday morning it was a little chilly in the shade, but it was a beautiful, sunny day.
Rylie loves Cole. Cole lives next door to us and they go to school together. She gets so excited when she sees him, even though she sees him just about every day. When we got to the park on Saturday she ran right up and hugged him. Cole tells his mom all the time that Rylie is his best friend. They are so sweet together!
Bryce loves to ride in the Bjorn!

Rylie is showing off her acorns.

I think Brian had more fun than the kids.

It warmed up so the hat came off.

Bryce's turn to swing.

Awesome Morning!
Well, except for the tumble Brian and Rylie took down a couple stairs. They are OK, though.
Anyway…I realized today how the health and mood of my children really affect my mood. Today is day two of everyone feeling well. Today is also the second day that Rylie didn’t cry when I dropped her off at daycare. Therefore, today is the second day that I am in a great mood and I am set up to have a great day!
Bryce seems to be feeling so much better! Apparently the steroid he was taking for his breathing cleared up his eczema, so he looks much better too! He is just all smiles lately. We have been having so much fun just playing with him. He is very vocal too, and loves to “talk”.
Rylie was so cute this morning. The little tumble down the stairs happened while I was up picking out her clothes and Brian was taking her downstairs to get some juice, so I didn’t end up getting anything picked out. When we went back up to her room, she opened her drawer and got out her favorite blue shorts with the flower on them. I tried to talk her into wearing something else, but she wasn’t having it, so she wore her favorite outfit to school today. I sat Bryce down to take his picture (gotta get some good pics while his face is clear!) and she actually wanted to sit down next to him and take pictures. On the way to school she told me she was going to read her Elmo book to me. It is a little board book with the different Sesame Street characters about colors. So she was like “Big Bird has orange” and “Ernie has lellow”. (Yes, she actually says “orange” now, rather than “eechew”.) When we got to school she said “no crying” as we were getting out of the truck, and I hoped that she really meant it. After we got Bryce all settled in his room, she put her books and her buppy in her cubby and ran over to the table. She didn’t cling to me or fuss like she does most days. Her teacher asked her where she wanted to sit and she said “by Cole” and went and sat down. I told her I loved her and she said “I love you too, Mommy” and that was it. I actually left there with a smile on my face this morning!
I think I was starting to fall into a little depression because of the kids being sick so much lately. I actually feel pretty well physically today, and mentally I feel great! It is amazing what some warm weather will do for all of us!

Toddlers Talk!
When Rylie was sick a few weeks ago Brian and I took turns staying home with her for a couple of days. The lawn guys came on the day I was home with her. The whole time they were there she was running from window to window saying “see man, Mommy!” or “man cut grass” or something of the sort. She was very interested in them. So the next day when Brian was home with her she said “Rylie see man with Mommy”. It is a good thing that we don’t have any trust issues, right?
I did learn a valuable lesson, though. Don’t do anything in front of your toddler that you don’t want them talking about. I’ll have to remember that the next time I need to sneak out to Target. :-)

Rylie feels great!
I figured I would at least make the title of this post positive. I think this needs to be marked down in the history books or something, because Rylie is the healthiest one in the house right now. The sickies even got Brian this time!
Bryce seems to be doing a little bit better. We have been giving him his breathing treatments every 4 hours, except when he is sleeping, and they seem to be helping. Yesterday he was barely wheezing. We went to the doctor last Friday and he was still wheezing pretty bad so she upped his dose of Prednisolone and said to continue with the breathing treatments. His ears were still full of thick fluid, but she wanted to give the Omnicef a few more days to work. She said to follow up at the end of this week and if his ears were still bad he would have to have the Rocephin shots. I have my fingers crossed that his ears will be clear!
The kid is still happy! As sick as he has been, he has remained happy through it all. And I don’t know if it is because he feels better, or if hyperactivity is a side effect of one of his medications, but he is all over the place! He kicks and punches the whole time he is drinking his bottles or eating (which he loves to do, by the way). He gets in the jumperoo and the exersaucer and goes absolutely nuts. He seems to be following in his sister’s footsteps with the high energy. Great.
Brian and I have both been feeling pretty miserable too. We’re both congested with sore throats. Brian now has pink eye too. Lovely.
Rylie, on the other hand, seems to be feeling great! We did manage to get to the park twice this weekend, just to get her out of the house for some play time. I’ll try to get some pictures up tomorrow.
Between Bryce’s bottles and his breathing treatments, we didn’t have too much time for anything this weekend. And to top it all off, the battery in the Armada died and stranded Brian and Rylie at Panera for a little bit. By the time I got there to get them, some nice people had already given him a jump. It is always something around our house.
It is warming up this week! Hopefully the warmer weather will put an end to the sickies so I can get back to blogging about stuff that is much more fun and interesting than this nonsense.

“I’m Not Listening”
Rylie gets crackers (usually graham crackers) on the way out of school every day. I usually grab an extra pack because most days she eats the first pack and wants more. She always politely asks for more. Well she was in one of her moods last night, so this is how it went…
Rylie: Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackers!
Me: Rylie, do you want more crackers?
Rylie: YES!
Me: Well, then what do you say?
Rylie: Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackers!
Me: No, that is not how you ask for more crackers.
Rylie: (whispering to herself) I am NOT going to say please.
Me: You only get more crackers if you ask nicely and say please.
Rylie: I’m not listening!
Me: I know you’re not listening since you’re not being very nice right now.
Rylie: I’m going to be mad!
Of course the whole time I was cracking up laughing. Even when she is being defiant, I am still amazed at her ever-expanding vocabulary, and her ability to think for herself. She knows cause and effect…and she did NOT get more crackers last night. We’ll see how she asks for them tonight.

The Sickies Blog
I think I am going to change the name of this blog. Because it seems like all I talk about anymore are the sickies in my house. I am about to pull my hair out!
When I picked Bryce up from school yesterday he was wheezing really bad, so I dropped Rylie off at home with Daddy and took him to urgent care. That place was packed! There were at least 10 people in front of me. So I signed in and settled in for the long wait. After probably a half hour I took Bryce out of his carrier to feed him. The lady behind the desk heard his breathing and told one of the nurses to come out and listen to him. She came out and listened and said “bump him up, he’s next”. Of course I’m sure this ticked off the other parents in there, but whatever, he is under 6 months old and wasn’t breathing well. I’m just glad that the lady behind the desk noticed how bad he was, because even I didn’t think he was all that bad.
The doctor came in and listened to his lungs and diagnosed him with bronchiolitis. He also had him tested for RSV, which was negative. By this time it was around 9:00. Bryce had fallen asleep and was certainly not happy when the guy jammed the swab up his nose to do the RSV test. He was even madder when they came in to do the breathing treatment. That was a fun experience trying to keep the little mask over his head as he thrashed around and tried to eat it! Finally at about 11:00 we left there with a nebulizer and two prescriptions.
They told us to give him a breathing treatment every 4 hours, even in the middle of the night. Brian stayed up to give him one at 1:00 so I could go to sleep since I had to go to work in the morning. I wasn’t really able to sleep much through all of the screaming after the breathing treatment started. The poor baby was just so tired! When my alarm went off at 5:00 I checked on him and he was breathing OK, so I let him sleep. I wasn’t about to put him through that again. When I talked to the nurse at his doctor’s office this morning, she agreed that it was fine to let him sleep as long as he wasn’t struggling to breathe or coughing a lot.
Oh! And the doctor said that he may end up with an asthma diagnosis. He said that eczema and asthma usually go together. I told him that Rylie had eczema and she grew out of it and doesn’t have asthma, but for some reason he thinks Bryce has it. I hope that is not the case!
When I talked to Brian this morning, he said that Bryce had his bottle, his medications and a breathing treatment and seemed to be doing OK. I’m staying home with him tomorrow and we have to go see his regular pediatrician.
My poor little “B-Nugget”.

Fashionista
Rylie has always been picky about her clothes. She doesn’t like any kind of elastic or tags in her shirts. Even before she could talk she would tug on her clothes if they weren’t comfortable on her. So I pretty much buy her only comfortable clothes. There are so many cute outfits I don’t get just because I know she will find them uncomfortable for one reason or another.
Now she has started picking out her clothes. If we aren’t going anywhere, I let her have free rein with her wardrobe. If we are leaving the house, though, it is usually a battle to get her dressed in what I want her to wear.
This is her favorite outfit…

She has had it since last summer and surprisingly that is the only picture I have of her in it. She would wear that every day if we let her. Every weekend the first thing she asks for is her “flower shirt” and the matching shorts, even if it is freezing cold out. Last weekend the flower shirt was dirty, but the shorts were clean, so this is what she came downstairs wearing…

She also has two “Mickey Mouse” shirts (they are really Minnie) that she loves to wear.
I told the ladies at school this morning that since she is now picking out her clothes, there is no telling what she might come dressed in. The shirt that I had picked out for her to wear today was apparently too tight on her. So she came downstairs topless so that Daddy could consult me on what she should wear. I told him to put a certain pink shirt on her. She had brown pants on, so I figured brown and pink were an OK combination. Did she come down with the pink shirt I told him to put on her? Nope! She wanted “THIS” pink shirt. Well, at least it matched.
Her closet is now full of at least 50 new outfits for the summer. How much money have I wasted???
