Welcome to another fun Saturday Playdate! Today we're playing with Nikki from Mommy Oblongata. Mommy Oblongata's tagline is "Random Thoughts of a New Mommy", and that is just what it is. She blogs about anything and everything, and I always enjoy reading her posts. Although, she isn't really a "NEW" mommy any more since her little guy is almost ONE!
When you're done reading her post here, go check out Mommy Oblongata. Spend some time reading her posts, and I'm sure you will agree that it is a great read! Give her some comment love while you're there, and let her know you stopped by from the playdate.
The Perfect Play Date
Play dates are such a novel idea. I love the thought of kids and moms (or dads) getting together and socializing. And when you think about it, it’s a win win for both kid and mom. The kid is able to build his or her social skills with fellow peers and exert enough energy that will surely produce a great nap afterwards. The mom is able to get out of the house and spend some time with other adults who like her, want to get out of the house with other adults.
I have to say that when I hear about these wonderful play dates, I get a little jealous. Because in all reality, it’s hard for a working mom to have play dates.
The weekend is the only time I have a full two days to spend with my child, and honestly, I want him all to myself. I’m not good at sharing him and that doesn’t make for good play date material.
But, I can’t have my cake and eat it too, I want play dates and I want my child…so I have to bend somewhere.
So I went out on the search for a “Working Mom’s Play Date Day” and was able to have two of my bestest friends come over with their little ones. I spent the Saturday morning cleaning, mopping, vacuuming and making the house all around child friendly. I laid out all my best toys to entice young hands with hours of fun. I made treats for both the kids and moms.
I tried my hardest to make my play date the kind of play date that I dreamed about. Where the children sit and play and laugh and the moms kick back with drinks in hand exchanging recipes.
But reality sat in. My toys were not so enticing to the children. Instead my garbage can, radio and kitchen cabinets were the toys of choice. Someone got their feelings hurt and spent about 15 minutes crying in a corner. The conversation between moms never reached more than two minutes and I honestly can’t remember a single thing we spoke about.
My treats, however, they were enjoyed. In fact it seems they were enjoyed all over the house since I found a brownie in the toilet.
The end of the play date came far too quickly and I spent 30 minutes re-cleaning what I had cleaned before.
I shouldn’t be too hard on myself really. I mean, it was my first play date and I was putting too much pressure on myself to make it perfect.
The next day we all decided that another play date was in order. I gleefully suggested we have it at someone else’s house.
Thanks for stopping by for our playdate! I hope you had fun! If you would like to come over for a playdate, let me know in a comment or an email.

LOL, brownies in the toilet!
I've never had a playdate (probably because I don't have any friends). I'm actually (kinda) having my first playdate later today. Hmmm, we'll see out that goes.
My only suggestion for your next playdate...wait until everyone leaves and then make the brownies and eat them all yourself! I would've been very upset about the wasted brownie in the toilet (but you know the saying "don't cry over flushed brownies"). I don't like to share brownies...or any other baked good for that matter.
Now I'm going to go mourn the loss of a perfectly good brownie...and perhaps eat a pan in its honor.
I just want to clarify that I am planning on eating a pan "of brownies", not just a pan itself...because that would just be weird and probably wouldn't taste a thing like chocolate which is a waste of chewing in my opinion.
