I love teaching Rylie new things. And she loves learning new things. I hadn't really thought about teaching her how to tie her shoes because I figured she was too young, but when I found out about Tie Buddies, I knew she would be able to learn how to do it.
Tie Buddies® will revolutionize when and how children learn to tie their shoes. With Velcro and slip-ons the average age of children learning to tie has increased with some children learning as late as 9 or 10. Tie Buddies® offer children ages 3-9 the independence of tying their own shoes while quickly teaching them a method which is based around characters and stories depicted on the Tie Buddies® themselves.
When I read that on the Tie Buddies website, I wasn't surprised. Rylie only has one pair of shoes with laces and the rest are Velcro. It is just easier to not have to deal with laces, especially since she can't tie her shoes by herself. That shouldn't be an excuse, though. All kids should learn how to tie their shoes, and I certainly don't want to wait until my kids are 9 or 10 years old for them to learn.
I was so glad to be given the opportunity to review Tie Buddies! We received the pink Fairy and Magic Wand set.

(There is also a blue race car set for the boys!)

Rylie and I sat down together and looked over the Tie Buddies instructions on the back of the package. The process seemed easy enough. We put the Tie Buddies on her laces as directed. I showed Rylie how to do the first shoe, and then sat behind her and guided her hands to do the second shoe. You still make that first "X" and pull the laces tight, but then instead of making the loops and having your child hold them, the loops are already made for you with the Tie Buddies. Then you simply pass one tie buddy behind the other and then back in front to make a hole, and then pull that tie buddy back through the hole.
This concept is great! Just like with every other new skill, it takes practice. Rylie tried a few times, and with my help, she was able to tie her shoes. I don't think it will take long for her to be able to tie her shoes on her own. Tie Buddies definitely makes it easier for a young child to tie their shoes!
Tie Buddies are available at the Tie Buddies shop for $8.99. Tie Buddies are available in the two colors shown above, but more characters are to come.

I would LOVE to have these for my daughter! She does well until the bunny ears step and she gets too confused by all the loops. I learned from the Tie Buddies site that the average age of children learning to tie has increased, with some children not learning until 9 or 10 years old!
I learned that a child can learn to tie their shoes as early as 3!!!

I learned that the tie buddies are recommended by kindergarden teachers.
I love that these are made for small hands. My boys are ages 1, 3 and 5 and none of them know how to tie their shoes so i would love to try these.

Tie Buddies®, a mom invented, patent pending product specializes in teaching children to tie their shoes.

Important: Tie BuddiesTM are meant to fit almost all laces however there may be some exceptions. If the tip of your childs' lace is worn or frayed you may want to replace the laces. You should also note that it may take some "elbow grease" to get the tip through on the larger ended laces.
