Yay! The weekend is here! Today we're having a fun playdate with Mason's Mom from Adventures of a wee Mason Man! I have had the pleasure of getting to know Mason's Mom over the past few months and she is such a sweetheart. She has an absolutely adorable little boy (can you guess what his name is?) and I love looking at all of the super cute pictures she posts of him. She is also a working mom like I am, and I relate to her blog so well.
After you're done reading her post here, head over to her blog and give her some comment love. Once you see how cute that little Mason is, you will want to follow her too!
I’m so happy LeeAnn invited me over for a playdate today! This is my first playdate, virtual or otherwise, so I’m pretty excited to be here! LeeAnn was one of the very first people I befriended when I started blogging, so I guess it’s only fitting that she is the host of our very first play date. Thanks so much, LeeAnn, for inviting me over AND taking me under your wing! I really appreciate it!
I’m Mason’s Mom (WeeMason’s Mom on any sort of social media) and I’m a clueless first time mom to adorable 6 month old Mason. I was the youngest child growing up, never babysat, and never had any interest in having kids prior to getting pregnant, so when I call myself clueless, I really am! We were probably some of the first parents that our hospital ever saw that went “Umm, could you show us how to change a diaper? We never have….” Heck, it was my husband’s first time even holding a baby and probably my fourth or fifth time! Fortunately for Mason, I love to research everything TO DEATH so I may not have any hands-on experience, but if there is a book or website out there about it, I’ve read it! I’m married to a great guy who makes a way better “mom” than I feel I’ll ever be and we both work full time, so I’m all too familiar with the ups and downs of daycare life that LeeAnn talks about from time to time!
So since this is a playdate and we all know that playdate is really code for “the kids keep each other busy while the parents gossip and complain” I’d like to take the chance to tell you the biggest beef I have right now about being a working mom. Every. Single. Thing. designed for babies and their parents seems to be designed for stay at home parents. Story-time at the library? 10 am on Tuesday. Swimming lessons at the pool? 1:00 on Thursday. Mother’s Day Out programs? 3:00 on Friday. Heck, even BREASTFEEDING classes were scheduled at 10 am on Thursdays. Never during the evenings. Never during the weekends. Because apparently no working mother wants to attend story time, swimming lessons, have time of her own, or learn to breastfeed. I GET that stay at home moms need the option to get out of the house during the day and these activities are a great way to do that. And I definitely knew that choosing to work with a baby at home would have its downfalls. But man, I would LOVE to be able to have the chance of participating in that type of stuff too! It just surprises me that there aren’t more activities for working mothers – weekend story time, evening baby gym, or whatnot. Totally a pet peeve of mine and I hope this is just my area (we live in the boonies) and not a wide-spread epidemic. Because I’m sure I’m not the only working momma who wishes she could cram yet another activity into her already jam packed life, especially if it means a chance to get out of the house and meet other adults while bonding with baby, right??
Well, I’ve never had the gift of brevity, so I better wrap this up before you all think LeeAnn has really long-winded friends. I’d love for you to stop by and visit us at Adventures of a Wee Mason Man - which is basically my “high tech baby book” for my little man. 80% cute pictures and stories and 20% “Oh my god, what have I gotten myself into” posts – a pretty good balance for a new mom, right? At least I’d like to think so!
Thanks a lot for reading and I hope to see you all soon! Thanks for having me over LeeAnn, I had a great time! :o)

Aww Mason is precious!
I'd love to come over for a playdate one day! Here's my blog link : ftmommyferg.blogspot.com and you can email me at mommyferg02@gmail.com
Thanks!
oh how i hear ya! corbin is thirteen months and i've just started making mommy friends. its like dating all over again! ugh! and i've never really thought about how working moms dont have fun activities to do with their babes. thats not fair! before now people always said to me, 'dont worry you'll meet lots of other moms when he starts school'. IN FIVE YEARS!!!! i hope some fun things pop up for u to do with little mason (or maybe start a group of your own on somewhere like meetup.com) and that mommy friends are in your very near future...because really no one else understands better than another mom!
also? what a cute idea this virtual playdate is! i look forward to reading more aboug rylie and bryce! they are such cuties!!!
That Wee Mason is such a cutie. And even though his parents may not have had a whole lot of experience with babies before he was born, secretly we're all pretty clueless with this whole mom thing. :)
I LOVE her and Mason too!
I have often thought about the scheduling of baby/parent activities. right now we are only able to go to any sort of function because i happen to nanny other kids so i'm with henry during the day. why do they do that? it makes no sense at all.
Mommyhood doesn't come with a manual so I'm sure you are doing just fine.
My kids are a little older so we have all kinds of things going on and I don't even think about all that stuff half of the time. But I definitely agree with your perspective.
You are so right about that, the weekend activities are so limited for working moms. It does get easier as they get older...you can do swim lessons on the weekend, or playdates with daycare friends (if he goes).
I love WeeMasonMan and his Mommy! They're some of our favorite bleeps... Mommy wishes that there were more activities available near us PERIOD let alone in the evenings or on weekends - everything here is for older kids... not much Mommy and Me. :(
I love her pictures too. Her posts are such fun.
