So why, I ask you, when I went to the stores last weekend, did I only see long sleeved shirts and pants? Where were the shorts and t-shirts? OK, maybe there were a couple of clearance racks with those items, but we either already have those clothes, or of the three sizes left, the one I needed wasn’t one of them. My child is running out of clothes that he fits into, and I need SHORTS for him. It is my fault that he is burdened with second child syndrome and I was not prepared in advance for his growth spurt, but it is your fault that I can’t go out and buy clothes for him now.
And don’t even get me started on the amount of sweaters and fleece I saw. Really? You really think it is necessary to have this crap out in the stores in AUGUST? If we ever need items like that, it isn’t until January or February. Don’t think I am fooled by your little trick of lowering the a/c in the stores down to 43 degrees. I am glad you do since I can cool down from having to run into a million stores looking for shorts, but it doesn’t make me want to buy a winter coat.
Bring the shorts back, please! And while you’re at it, bring the bathing suits back too. Because, by the way, we can use those pretty much year round too.
Sincerely,
A mom that is going to have to let my kid go to school naked since he has no summer clothes that fit him.

Amen sister!!! And don't get me started on the Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff I'm already seeing in some stores!
Exactly! It's so irritating! And, what about the oodles of halloween costumes that involve furry suits with hoods, our children would melt in something like that. How do they think that would sell down here? Luckily my parents live "in the north" and every year they send me a giant box of summer/back to school clothes clothes that they purchase off the clearance racks up there because no one is buying for summer anymore. It's the only solution I have to this problem...other than begging buyers to get a clue!
Gymboree no longer has anything remotely summery...ugh!
Yes! And let me add:
1. It's hard to tell what size to buy in those long sleeved/long pants items since we won't need them for another 6 months, anyway!
2. I also have 2 tangentially related rants for girls clothes. One is called, "Little girls want pockets too." The other is, "Why do boys get thick jackets and girls get thin ones?"
OH MY GOD LeeAnn (look at her big butt) no I meant to say that was too funny. (Sorry after I said Oh MY GOD in my head it made me think of the Sir Mix A Lot song).
This was a hilarious and on the mark post. Living in South Florida we usually don't get but a week or two of winter in general. My children have one jacket that I can never get them to wear and Honey hates ANYTHING with sleeves. It took me a while to convince her to wear long pants!!
Florida should ALWAYS have swimsuits, shorts, and tank tops stocked!!
Great Post!
Totally agree on the bathing suit deal. Seriously, I went in July and there were none to be found! But the same opposite happens around April. It's still chilly outside here, but all the racks say It's Summer Time!
Haha, I'm in the opposite boat! I want to start stocking up on winter/fall clothing and am irritated they're still putting out new shorts and t-shirts! Granted it's still hot here, but that's the way it works "in the north" as Carol's daughter calls it, 90 one day and then, bam!, you need your heater the next.
Woohoo! Thanks so much for posting this. I live in Southeast Texas and right now it is 93 degrees, with a heat index of 105 degrees. My little girls foot has all of a sudden to grow a size bigger and her white sandals that go with every sun dress in her closet are now too small and NO ONE is carrying sandals anymore. I can find boots and patent leather shoes, but no stinkin' sandals. It's hot here until November! I swear, I think those buyers live up North and have no idea about what our weather is like in the South.
Online shopping? Good luck! I hate when there are no more seasonal clothes available in store because they're busy preparing for weather 6 months from now.
Love this. We lived in Vegas for years and experienced the same thing. Thanks for linking up at my place last week. I'm following you now.
It's because of all of us schmucks up here in Wisconsin. The high today was 72º and it was only in the low 60s most of the day. Winter is scarily close....
But, you would think the buyers would realize that states that are 1500 miles apart have different weather. Apparently not.
All I can say is that when I used to work in retail, we always bought special items for the 'hot weather' stores. They would continue with shorts/tees alot longer the the northern stores. I wonder if retailers are still doing this? Well, I guess not if you can't find one pair of shorts! I am sure going naked might get your kids in trouble..LOL!
