I know it is Wordless Wednesday, and as much as I like to participate in it, I have to write today. I haven’t had time to even get a picture off the camera yet. Plus, I really just feel so out of touch with everyone. I haven't been online since early Friday morning, and I'm having withdrawals! My grand plans of getting computer time while I was on vacation obviously were more like wishes that didn’t come true.
I have a lot of catching up to do. I have to find out what my favorite bloggers have been up to. I have way too many unread items in my reader! I also see that I have a few new followers. I promise I will get over to your blogs this week!
I have to make three posts today. We had a couple of milestones over the weekend and I want to post about those separately. They deserve their own post. And this way, if I ever get around to filling out the kids’ baby books, I can find these dates easily.
Our vacation was great! The kids did pretty well in the car. The DVD player kept them occupied, and I found out that Bryce is fascinated with Dora! I don't know if it is the pitch of her voice or what, but whenever Dora was on, he was glued to the TV. It was a really long drive, though. What normally takes me 6 hours to do by myself took 9 going up and almost 9 coming back. What used to be a 5 minute bathroom stop took anywhere from a half hour to an hour. Rylie didn’t have any accidents in the car, which was great, but that just meant more public bathroom usage.
Speaking of public bathrooms, let me just rant about those for a second. I went into some pretty disgusting ones during our two days of driving. There was the McDonald’s that had the feces-covered changing table over the toilet, with literally no room to stand next to it. There was the Cracker Barrel that had water all over the floor around the toilet. Oh, and then there is Wendy’s. I will NEVER eat at Wendy’s again until Bryce is out of diapers. They don’t even provide changing tables. That pisses me off. It almost makes me want to just change my kid’s poopy diaper right in the middle of the restaurant. But I didn’t. I changed him on the front seat of my truck instead. Yeah, that was fun. We usually just change the kids in the back of my SUV, but that was filled up with half of my house, so we couldn’t do that during our trip. We finally realized that Cracker Barrel generally had the cleanest restrooms, so we just stopped there for bathroom breaks. (Of course, Mama had to buy Rylie something at each one.)
So anyway, back to the good part of the vacation. We really did have a great time! Rylie was in heaven with my cousins around to play with. She was like the Energizer Bunny the whole time…going, going, going. Bryce had a good time once he warmed up to everyone, but he was very shy at first. The kids were spoiled by my aunt and of course they got new (BIG) toys.
We celebrated my cousin Alaina’s 10th birthday on Saturday. And even though the rain tried to ruin her party, it was still fun. We eventually were able to go swimming once the storm passed. On Sunday we hung out in the morning around the pool until the clouds rolled in, and then played inside while it rained. Both of the kids really enjoyed being in the pool! After the storm passed we played outside and watched Rylie “mow” the driveway with her new bubble lawnmower. She had fun.
We had a great time with my family and it was so good to see them. We only usually see each other a couple times a year, but it seems like the visits are getting more frequent, which I am so happy about. I have a really small family and we are all very close. They will be here for Bryce’s birthday in September, and I look forward to seeing them again.
I had planned to take the kids to school yesterday so I could get everything unpacked and get the 6,394 loads of laundry done, but since we didn’t get back until really late Monday night, I kept them home yesterday. So needless to say, I am exhausted still. I think I need a vacation to recuperate from our vacation! Luckily I am off work this Friday, so I am hoping to catch up with all of my blog friends, and of course the laundry, then. Although I don't think I'll ever really get caught up on laundry.
We should have the pictures up soon…hopefully we’ll get a minute this weekend.
