I am seriously over this! I feel like these kids have been sick forever now. And it isn’t just my kids. I think 80% of my friends have a sick kid or two also. It feels like it is never going to end!
We took both kids to the pediatrician Friday morning. Bryce had been pulling on his ears a little too much for me, and I figured we might as well get Rylie looked at too since she had been running a fever. Bryce’s ears weren’t infected at that moment, but the NP said that they were full of thick fluid so she didn’t know if he was getting an infection, or getting over one. She gave us a prescription for Omnicef (which is the 3rd antibiotic he has been on in the last month) and told us to fill it if he seems to get worse. She said if we end up getting the prescription filled to bring him back when he is done with it to see if his ears are clear, and if not, he would have to have the Rocephin shots. This is the exact same thing that happened to Rylie between 4 and 5 months…an ear infection that didn’t clear up with amoxicillin, Augmentin or Omnicef, and it finally ended with the Rocephin shots. That is what began her horrible fear of doctors, too. We ended up getting the prescription filled Saturday evening because all day Saturday he was cranky, goopy and pulling at his ears. He seems to be doing so much better today! I’m sure he will need tubes at some point, and we sure won’t be waiting 20 months this time. For now though, I just hope the Omnicef works so he doesn’t have to go through the 3 days of Rocephin agony!
Rylie didn’t have a fever while we were at the pediatrician, and the NP said she looked fine and couldn’t see anything wrong with her. When I tried to take her to school she threw a fit so I kept her home with me again Friday. It is a good thing I did because her fever was back by the time we got home. It finally went away Friday evening and hasn’t come back since. She ended up in our bed at about midnight Friday night and while I was changing her diaper she started coughing and puked all over herself. I guess it was just from the coughing since she didn’t do it again. Thank goodness! The last thing I need is another stomach bug in my house! She seemed fine Saturday and Sunday except for her lack of eating. When she refused a cookie Sunday afternoon I started getting really worried. She did eat a decent dinner of spaghetti and meatballs (her favorite) last night, so I’m not quite as worried anymore. Brian thinks her mouth is bothering her since she is getting her 2 year molars. I hope that is all it is!
I am honestly about to pull my hair out. I just want these kids to be well and feel good. Is that asking too much?
