Whose kid was that?

That could not have been MY Rylie that I took to the doctor's office this morning. Because my Rylie always cries, and screams, and cries some more. She had a horrible ear infection at 4 months old that wouldn't go away. We tried 3 different antibiotics over a span of a month and when none of those worked, she had to go for shots for three consecutive days. Ever since then, going to see the doctor is sheer torture...or at least you would think it was by the way she was acting. She would start crying the second we walked in the door, and not stop until we were back in the car.

Until today.

We had a follow up with the ENT to check on her tubes. When we walked into the waiting room she wanted to get down and play with the toys. When the nurse called her back, she walked back all by herself and was glad to get up on the scale. Then she walked into the room by herself. When the doctor came in she smiled and said hi. He asked her which ear he could look in first and she pointed to her left hear. After he checked that ear he asked her if he could look in her other ear and she gladly turned her head. She then opened her mouth when he told her to say "aaahhhhh". I honestly couldn't believe it. I was just amazed the whole time. We left there with a lollipop and some stickers, and no tears. I was so proud!

Her ears look great and the tubes are still where they are supposed to be. They can fall out as early as six months after they were put in, so I need to remember that and not freak out on the day when I go to get her out of her crib and something is hanging out of her ear!

Yeah, Rylie! What a big girl! Hope you can keep doing that when you have to go to the doctor. When you get old enough, I will tell you how your mother handled doctor visits - like saying that she would wait in the car when she was your age! Doctor visits with her were not so fun adventures. I love you so much and am very proud of you. Mama
